February 12, 2021 - Global pandemics are stressful. Unemployment is stressful. Uncertainty about the future is stressful. On and on it goes. There seems to be no shortage of stressors these days. Finding ways to respond to the stress of lockdowns, social distancing, loss of income, and countless other stressors can be a rather daunting task. The effects of stress can leave a lasting impression. How you respond to that stress can impact the rest of your life.

National Great American Smokeout

November 19, 2020 - Did you know that tobacco use is the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the United States? Each year, smoking accounts for 443,000 premature deaths and according to the American Cancer Society thousands of non-smokers die as a result of exposure to secondhand smoke. November 19th is the Great American Smokeout and there is no better time than now to quit the use of any tobacco product.

National Prevention Week Raises Awareness of Substance Abuse, Mental Health Issues

May 4, 2020 - National Prevention Week is an effort to bring communities together to raise public awareness concerning substance abuse and mental health issues. This national observance, which is sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), will be May 11-15, 2020. This is the perfect time for everyone to come together and rally around prevention. Community agencies and coalitions are using this time to educate everyone about the importance of preventing substance abuse and mental disorders BEFORE they occur.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month

April 9, 2020 - For more than forty years, Steve’s life has revolved around alcohol. It has adversely impacted every aspect of his life: his wife has left him, his children seldom speak to him, he struggles keeping a job, and now his health is failing. Over the years, Steve has tried and failed time and time again to stop. Now he feels it’s pointless to even try to quite anymore. “I’ve failed in the past, why would today be any different?”
