Sheriff Warns of IRS Scam

April 29, 2015 - A Shelby County viewer reported receiving a call from the IRS this morning with instructions to call (254) 304-8945 to pay taxes or they would be penalized or sued. Always use caution when receiving phone calls were the caller is threatening and demanding payment of money owed.

Shelby County Youth Coach Arrested for Soliciting Minor

March 30, 2015 - A Texas youth baseball coach was arrested Saturday after driving to Shreveport for the purpose of meeting underage boys for sex, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Christopher Scott Tyre, 26, of Center, Texas, was arrested in the 8500 block of Youree Drive at a location where he thought he would be meeting two juvenile boys and their father, Prator said.

Shelby County Jail Passes Surprise Inspection

March 16, 2015 - Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that on March 12, 2015 a surprise inspection of the Shelby County Jail was preformed by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.

Sheriff Blackwell is happy to report that the Shelby County Jail was compliant and there were no deficiencies noted. Sheriff Blackwell gives credit to Jail Administrator William Cox and all the hard working jailers that make this possible.

Sheriff's Department Seeks Information Relating to Shooting Incident

February 3, 2015 - Information is being sought by the Shelby County Sheriff's Department in relation to a man who allegedly fired a rifle at a child on Monday.

Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that on Monday February 2, 2015 at around 5:15pm Sheriff’s Deputies Kurtes Lawrence, Bradley Horton and John Pope responded to a report of a juvenile who had been shot at by an unknown person.

Man Shot in West Shelby; Sheriff's Department Seeks Information

January 30, 2015 - Shelby County Sheriff's Department received a 911 on January 30, 2015 at approximately 3:18am regarding a male subject identified as a Darrell Bailey, who lives at the corner of CR 1245 and 7 West, reported to have been shot by an assailant unknown to him at the time. Mr. Bailey was life flighted to LSU by Life Air Rescue and condition is unknown at this time.

Sheriff's Department Seeking Information Concerning Destroyed Mailboxes

January 21, 2015 - Sheriff Willis Blackwell states that during the evening of Thursday, December 25, 2014 and the morning of December 26, 2014, unidentified individual(s) destroyed several mailboxes along FM 3184, FM 3172, FM 139, and FM 417 East.

Based on the degree of destruction caused to the mailboxes, it is believed an explosive was used. One explosion caused a grass fire that burned a portion of a hay field, and another grass fire in the Huxley area was reported, but the cause remains uncertain at this time.
