July 8, 2025 – Texans should think twice before clicking on links in threatening text messages that falsely claim to be from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) or similarly named agencies.

New law eliminates most vehicle safety inspections

December 17, 2024 - Beginning January 1, 2025, Texas vehicle owners will no longer need to obtain a safety inspection prior to vehicle registration. House Bill 3297, passed during the 88th Legislature in 2023, eliminates the safety inspection program for non-commercial vehicles.

Texans can protect themselves from motor vehicle crimes

The risk of having your car or valuables stolen increases while shopping and traveling during the holidays. The Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) reminds Texans: “If You Like It – Lock It.”

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is introducing a new look for tags that are issued by licensed Texas motor vehicle dealers. This is the next step in ongoing efforts that have made a significant difference in curtailing and preventing the fraudulent production of, access to, and use of temporary tags.
