Rams Roll over Red Devils in Homecoming Win

September 18, 2016 – The Joaquin Rams varsity football team enjoyed a 42-0 win over the visiting Huntington Red Devils last Friday.

The Rams went up 6-0, with 3:58 left in the first quarter, when quarterback Tray Wilkerson capped a 50-yard Rams drive with a 5-yard keeper run for a touchdown.  Joseph Tarver extended Joaquin’s lead to 12-0 with a 1-yard scoring run with 4:23 left in the second period. Wilkerson extended the lead to 14-0 with a 2-point conversion run. This would still be the score at the midway break.

The Rams added scores by Kase Yates and Wilkerson in the third quarter, set up by a Reagan Hovey fumble recovery. Joaquin took a 28-0 advantage into the final period.

Wilkerson added another score, early in the fourth period, which gave JHS a 36-0 lead. Tarver added the final score of the contest with a 2-yard touchdown run with just 1:20 left to play.

Joaquin had 383 total yards of offense, 357 rushing and 26 yards passing. The Rams went 2/6 passing and had one interception. Huntington had 116 yards total offense, all rushing. They went 0/1 passing.

The Rams had a 12-6 advantage at converting first-downs.

The Rams are now 2-2 and will travel to Hawkins next Friday, September 23. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. Hawkins is 1-3 and fell to the Timpson Bears by a 35-14 score last Friday.

Joaquin will begin their District 11 2A play on October 7, at home against Alto.
