This Week in Shelby County Football

October 12, 2016 – The Center Roughriders varsity football team will travel to Carthage High School to take a shot at boosting their District 4A-1 record to 4-0. Center is currently 3-0 and has a 5-2 overall mark. The ‘Riders beat the Chapel Hill Bulldogs 35-28 last week. Carthage is 3-2 overall and fell to 0-2 last Friday when they lost to Kilgore 41-34 on the road. Kickoff at Bulldog Stadium will be Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Joaquin Rams boosted their overall record to 4-2 last week when they started District 11 2A-1 play with a 24-7 home win against the Alto Yellowjackets. This was the first Rams’ win over the Alto varsity football program in school history.  Joaquin hosts the Shelbyville Dragons at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

The Dragons are 1-5 overall and started conference play with a 40-24 loss to San Augustine last Friday. Last season the Dragons embarrassed the Rams by beating them 48-0 at home.

The Tenaha Tigers are now 6-0, and 1-0 in District 11 2A-2 competition, after starting conference action with a 56-6 road win over Mount Enterprise. Tenaha hasn’t lost a conference game since 2008. They face Wortham High School on the road Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Wortham Bulldogs are 3-3 overall and lost to the Timpson Bears 20-7 in their first conference showdown last Friday. Timpson is 3-2 overall and are 1-0 in District 11 2A-2 competition. They will travel to Grapeland to face the Sandies at 7 p.m. Grapeland is 3-3 overall and dropped their first conference game 40-26 to Overton, on the road, last Friday.
