Roughriders Gymnasium, January 24, 2017 –
The Center Lady Roughriders dropped a District 16 4A basketball game with the visiting Carthage Lady Bulldogs by a lopsided 48-27 score on Tuesday.
The Lady Roughriders found themselves falling behind 3-14 early, then 6-17 with 2:13 remaining in the second period, and Carthage held a 21-8 lead at the midway intermission.
The Lady Bulldogs went on an 11-0 run to take a 32-8 advantage with four minutes left in the third stanza before Mekayla Hubbard scored on a free throw with 3:50 left in the frame. Center went on a 6-0 run during the period to pull to within 14-32 but Carthage held a 35-14 lead going into the final quarter.
Taylor Nichols started the final period with a bucket and a free-throw to pull CHS to within 17-35. Each team totaled 13 points apiece in the final stanza and Carthage was able to hold on for the 21-point win.
Scoring for Center were Taylor Nichols with 12 points, Jakayla Weathered 7, Mekayla Hubbard 4, Makayla Rankin 2, and Anijiah Harper 2 points.
Center will next travel to Rusk High School for another conference showdown with the Lady Eagles (1-2 8-12) on Friday January 27, at 6:00 p.m.
