Tigers Thrash Visiting Bears To Hold District Lead

Friday night, Tenahas’ Tigers varsity basketball team remained undefeated by defeating District 22 2A rival Timpson High School by a convincing 109-44 score. The Tigers have now improved their conference mark to 8-0 and they have a 20-2 overall standing. The Timpson Bears are now 0-7 in district play.

Tenahas’ Jaqualin Franks and Josh Walters each scored early buckets to give the Tigers an early4-0 lead but Timpsons’ Dustin Pledger cut the Tenaha lead down to 4-2 with a jumper with seven minutes left in the opening period. Ten first quarter points by Franks helped Tenaha go on a 19-point run and lead 23-2 with 3-minutes left in the opening stanza before Cam Berry scored a second bucket for the Bears. Tenaha led 36-6 going into the second quarter.

The Tigers out-paced the Bears 34-9 in the second quarter and took an impressive 70-15 lead into the halftime intermission. Jay Lloyd had ten second-period points, followed closely by teammate Hayden Jenkins who hit three 3-pointers during the frame.

Pledger scored ten points for the Bears during the third frame but Tenaha out-scored Timpson 24-17 and took a 94-32 advantage into the final quarter.

Tenaha narrowly out-scored Timpson during the final stanza (15-12) to take the 65-point win.

Jay Lloyd led the Tigers with 20 points. Teammate Hayden Jenkins scored 16, Trai Gardner 14, Jaurmez Brock 13, Josh Walters 12, Cody Foshee 10, Erik Smith 6, TK Gardner 5, and LaDaririus Garrett had three points. Timpson was led by Dustin Pledger with ten points, Cam Berry 9, Jaden Johnson 6, Brock Behrens and Jordon Osby each had four, and Cutter Smith scored one point.

The Tigers will face the Carthage Bulldogs at Bulldogs Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 31, for a non-district game which starts with junior varsity at 5:30 p.m. Varsity boy’s action will follow.

The Bears will host the Shelbyville Dragons at THS on Tuesday with JV girl’s action beginning at 4:30 p.m. JV boy’s and Varsity girl’s and boy’s play to follow.
