Bears Win County Rivalry Game With Rams

Timpson Bears Gymnasium, February 7, 2017 –

On Tuesday, the Timpson Bears Varsity Basketball Team won a District 22 2A conference basketball game, at home, over their cross county rivals, the Joaquin Rams by a 72-65 margin. Eleven first-quarter points by Bears shooting guard Dustin Pledger helped Timpson gain a narrow 13-12 lead by the end of the first stanza.

A bucket by Joaquin postman Matt Silvey, and a 3-pointer by guard Eleazar Huerta, helped the Rams take a 17-13 lead with under seven minutes left in the first half. Timpson fought back to regain a narrow one-point lead and they gained a 29-28 advantage going into the locker room at the midway break.

Bears shooting guard Kelan Foster scored eight points in the third frame to help THS gain a narrow 49-47 lead by the end of the third stanza. Foster added ten more points to the Bear’s tally in the final frame to help his team gain the eight-point final scoring advantage.

Timpson scorers were, Dustin Pledger with 23 points, Kelan Foster 22, Cam Berry 8, Jordan Osby 7, Jaden Johnson 7, Brock Behrens 2, and Cutter Smith 2 points.

Eleazar Huerta led the Rams with 18 points. Teammate Nick Matthews scored 13, Justin Hooper 12, JaKendric Smith 10, Trey Wilkerson 8, and Matthew Silvey 5.

Timpson will host the San Augustine Wolves in another district contest on Friday, February 10 at 6 p.m.

Joaquin will travel to Tenaha on Friday, February 10 for another cross-county conference rivalry game with the Tigers at 7 p.m. at the Tenaha Special Events Center.
