On Friday, before a packed house at Shelbyvilles’ Dragons Gymnasium, a Tenaha and Woden crowd watched Coach Davison and the Lady Tigers defeat a top ten Lady Eagles team for the second time in a week’s time. The Lady Tigers defeated Woden 39-35 to gain Tenaha’s third straight District 22 2A basketball title.

Both Tenaha and Woden scored eight points during the first period of play. Tenaha gained a 22-16 advantage by halftime by only allowing two Lady Eagles to score, and by playing stingy defensive.

Bianca Davison hit two 3-pointers during the third stanza which helped the Lady Tigers hang with Woden despite 9 points scored by Lady Eagle Meagan Johnson during the frame. Tenaha took a 31-25 into the fourth and final quarter.

Woden gained a little ground by outscoring Tenaha 10-8 in the final stanza but this was not enough to pull close enough to send the game into overtime as THS took the 4-point win.

Brittany Thompson led the Lady Eagles with 15 points. Tenaha was led by Bianca Davison with 12 points. Other Lady Tigers scoring were, Arlicia Roland 11, Shayla Sparks 11, and Brooke McClure with 5 points. Only four players for each team scored during the contest.

Tenaha opens the 2017 UIL Basketball playoffs on Tuesday, February 14, at 7:00 p.m., at Gary High School’s Bobcats Gymnasium, against the Mount Enterprise Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Tigers finished the regular season at 22-4 overall and 12-1 in District 22 2A play.

On Monday Woden will play the Alto Lady Eagles at Central Heights High School.
