Dragons Thrash Rams In Final District Game

The Shelbyville Dragons travelled to Joaquin where they defeated the Rams’ varsity basketball team by an 81-57 margin on Tuesday. This sends Shelbyville in to the post season with a 10-2 conference mark with sole possession of second place. Tenaha took the top seed for District 22-2A by defeating the San Augustine Wolves by a 75-64 score.

Freshman shooting guard Jordan Boykins exploded for thirteen points, during the first quarter, to help the Dragons gain a 22-13 lead by the end of the period. Boykins had a game-high 23 points for the night.

In the second period Dragon Jakovian Buckley put up twelve points to help Shelbyville amass a 45-23 lead at halftime.

Joaquin and Shelbyville each scored 19 points during the third stanza .The two teams headed to the final quarter of play with the Dragons leading 64-42.

Rams point guard Peyton Martinez hit two 3-pointers and a field goal during the final period but nine points by Cole Ferguson helped the Dragons out-pace JHS, 17-15 points, to gain the 24-point win.

Scoring for Shelbyville were, Jordan Boykins 23 points, Cole Ferguson 17, Jakovian Buckley 12, Trae Polley 9, Malik Cartwright 6, Cam Howard 4, Trez Barnes 4, Kirktric Allen 4, and Ben Sweringer 2.

Rams scoring were, Peyton Martinez 13 points, Jakendric Smith 12, Nick Matthews 11, Eleazar Huerta 10, Tray Wilkerson 5, Justin Hooper 4, and Matthew Silvey 2.
