Late Rallies Propel Lady ‘Dogs past Lady Roughriders

The Center Lady Roughriders Varsity Softball Team saw their District 16 4A record fall to 1-3 after losing Tuesday’s home game, to the Carthage Lady Bulldogs, by an 11-4 score. The Lady ‘Riders held a 2-0 lead when Sydney Sears and Taylor Nichols crossed the plate in the first inning, and Center extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Claire Spann drove in two runs with a well-placed hit.

The Lady Bulldogs stormed back with six runs, off of six hits and two walks, during the sixth inning. Now leading 6-4 Carthage set the Lady ‘Riders down in 1-2-3 order in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Lady ‘Dogs extended their lead with five more runs in the top of the seventh and final inning. The Carthage defense only allowed Center one hit in the bottom of the final inning and closed out the game.

Carthage leads District 16 with a 5-0 conference mark and they have an impressive 21-4-2 overall mark. Rusk holds second place with a 3-1 standing. Henderson and Center are tied at 1-3. Tatum is trailing with a 0-5 mark in district play.

The Lady Roughriders will next travel to Rusk on Tuesday, April 11 to face the Lady Eagles at 6:15 p.m.
