Lady Rams Advance With Softball Playoff Win Over Malakoff Cross Roads

LeTourneau College, Friday, May 19, 2017 –

The Joaquin Lady Rams Varsity Softball team took a 5-0 win over the Cross Roads Lady Bobcats, on Friday at LeTourneau College in Longview. The game was a Region III Semifinal playoff elimination game.

Early on, the Lady Rams only managed two base runners, who had reached base on walks, until they exploded for all five of the games’ runs in the top of the fourth inning. Ultimately Joaquin had four hits and walked nine times. Despite the 5-0 score, the game proved to be a defensive battle for most of the contest.

The fourth inning saw Lexi Hutchins lead off the frame with a single to center field. Hana Bonner later singled to right field and Randi Goates loaded the bases after the Cross Roads third baseman misplayed an excellent bunt. Hutchins scored on a sacrifice fly by Ali Harper.  Goates and Bonner scored moments later, on an error by the Bobcats’ second baseman, to give JHS a 3-0 lead. The final two runs of the contest where scored when Lilly Welch tripled up the middle later in the same inning.

Defensively, Joaquin gave up only three hits and two walks. Lexi Hutchins struck out ten Lady Bobcat batters.

Joaquin now boasts a 32-9 record and will next head to the Regional Finals round. They will face the winner of the Woden/ Martin’s Mill Semifinal game.
