The Center Roughriders Varsity Football Team finished preseason play with a final scrimmage played with the visiting Tatum Eagles on Thursday.

Center’s first defensive stand allowed Tatum only two first downs in 20 plays. Center intercepted the football once and ended Tatum’s series by sacking the Eagle’s quarterback deep in his own backfield.

Jaterious Evans caught-and -ran two long touchdowns for the Roughriders during Center’s first 20-play possession.

Tatum’s second 20-play possession saw Center’s defense hold steady and the Eagles were held to minimal yardage.

Center got a touchdown on the fifth play of their second down-controlled possession when Reggie Daniels pulled down a 6-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone.

The two teams next headed to a 30-minute timed scrimmage period which simulated two game-type quarters of play. Tatum scored first and went up 7-0 when a screen pass went 50 yards for a touchdown.

Center tied things up on a long Evans touchdown catch-and-run with 22:51 left in the contest.

Jadus Johnson later put Center up 14-7 with a 15-yard rushing score with 17:18 left in the scrimmage.

The final score of the game was a 22-yard Tatum field goal with less than 6-minutes left in the contest. Center held a 14-10 lead at the end of the scrimmage.

The Roughriders will travel to Rusk next Friday, September 1, for their first regular season game of the year. The game will be at Rusk Eagles Stadium and kickoff will take place at 7:30 p.m.
