This Week in Shelby County Football, Week 9

The Center Roughriders fell to Henderson by a 27-14 score last Friday and slipped down to sixth place in the District 9 Class 4A-1 standings. Center has a 2-7 overall standing and a 2-3 conference mark. They lead only Chapel Hill who is 0-5 in conference play. Carthage leads the district with a 4-0 mark. Kilgore is in second place with a 3-1 record. Henderson, Bullard and Palestine are all tied for third place with 2-2 league records. The Roughriders will try to get back on track on Friday, November 3, 2017, when they host the Kilgore Bulldogs. Kick off will take place at 7:30 p.m.

This week's game between the Joaquin Rams and San Augustine Wolves will break the tie atop the District 11 2A-1 leaderboard.  Joaquin won their sixth straight game when they defeated the Carlisle Indians , last Friday, by a 26-23 score at home. The Rams' District 11 2A-1 record now stands at 4-0. They have a 8-1 overall mark and will travel to San Augustine, on Friday November 3, 2017 for a 7:30 p.m. kick off. The Wolves are 8-0 and 3-0 in conference competition. They last beat Alto 51-35 on the road. This game likely is for the conference championship unless there is a major upset next week.

The Shelbyville Dragons got their first win in District 11 2A-1 when they defeated the Cushing Bearkats 41-6 at Cushing. The Dragons’ overall record is now 2-6. The Dragons will next host the Carlisle Indians (6-2, 1-2). Kick off will be at Dragons Stadium, Friday, November 3, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. Shelbyville is knotted with Carlisle and Alto with 1 win each, and tied for third place.

The Tenaha Tigers remain undefeated after defeating the Grapeland Sandies on the road by a 49-0 score. The Tigers are now 8-0, 3-0. They will host the Overton Mustangs on Friday, November 3, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. Overton is winless with a 0-8 season mark and a 0-3 conference mark. Timpson beat them last Friday 52-16 at Mustangs Stadium.

The Timpson Bears boosted their season mark to 7-1, 3-0 with a 52-16 win over the Overton Mustangs. They will travel to Mount Enterprise for a 7:30 p.m. kick off with the Wildcats on Friday, November 3, 2017. The Wildcats are 3-5 overall and 2-1 in league play. They last Beat Wortham by a 48-20 score. Timpson and Tenaha are both undefeated in conference action and if they can both win this week they will play for the District 11 2A-2 championship next week.
