Lady Rams Get 73-41 Home-Court Win Over the Lady Dragons

The Joaquin Lady Rams Varsity Basketball Team took a 32-point win at home over the Shelbyville Lady Dragons on Friday. The Lady Rams never trailed during the contest.

Seven points in the first quarter by each, sophomore guard Riley Sherrod and senior post Day’za Lane, gave Joaquin as much as a 12-point lead during the first quarter. Two buckets near the end of the first period, by junior Dragons’ guard Jasmine Osby, cut the Lady Rams lead to just eight points. Joaquin took a 20-12 lead into the second frame.

Two 3-pointers and a field goal, during the second quarter, from senior Ram Eboni Adams helped Joaquin gain a 32-23 advantage by the halftime intermission.

Twelve points during the third period from Joaquins’ Desere Cooper helped the Lady Rams gain a 51-33 lead going into the final period of play.

Joaquin was able to build on their lead by extending it from 18 points by outscoring the Lady Dragons 22-8 during the final stanza, and they took home the 73-41 District 22 2A win.

Four Joaquin players were in double figures. Desere Cooper, Riley Sherrod, and Eboni Adams had fourteen points each. Day’za Lane and Katelyn Martinez each scored ten points.


Lady Dragons Jasmine Osby and JaKaitlon Bolton both had eleven points.
The Lady Rams are now 3-5 in conference action. They will next travel to Woden on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 for a tip off with the Lady Eagles (4-1) following Junior Varsity action which begins at 4:30 p.m.


The Lady Dragons are 1-6 in district play and will go to San Augustine for a game with the Lady Wolves, on Tuesday January 23. Tip off will follow JV action which begins at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Wolves are 0-6.
