Tenaha Lady Tigers Clinch Title With 74-28 Win Over Shelbyville

Tenaha Special Events Center, February 2, 2018 –

The Tenaha Lady Tigers Varsity Basketball Team moved their District 22 2A record to 11-0 and clinched at least a share of their fourth straight title with a convincing 74-28 win over the Shelbyville Lady Dragons. The Lady Tigers are 26-4 overall. The Lady Dragons are 3-13 overall and are out of contention for the playoffs this season.

On Tenaha’s Senior Night, Senior Lady Tigers Destini Whitehead and Arlicia Roland teamed up for a combined 55 points to lead the charge.

The Lady Tigers wasted no time building a lead, and they never trailed during the game. Roland and Whitehead each scored buckets during the opening minute, and they had an identical 12 points during the first period which gave Tenaha a lopsided 24-5 lead at the end of the opening frame.

The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Dragons 17-6 in the second period and took a 41-11 lead into the midway break.

Six steals during the third stanza helped Tenaha outpace Shelbyville 13-8 and they took a 54-19 lead in to the fourth quarter.

The Lady Tigers cleared the bench and were still able to build on their lead by outscoring the Lady Dragons 20-9 in the final period.

Tenaha was led by Arlicia Roland with 28 points on the day, Destini Whitehead had 27, Joneishia Thompson 6, Jaden Washington 6, Bianca Davison 3, and Jonica Glaze 3.

Shelbyville was led by Taniya Barnes with 7 points, Jasmine Osby 6, JaKaitlon Bolton 5, Alcia Gatlin 5, Kouja Gates 3, and Faith Ridgeway scored two points.

The Lady Tigers will play their final conference game on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Woden Eagles Gymnasium at 6 p.m. Tenaha honored senior students Destini Whitehead,Arlicia Roland, Jaden Washington, Tymaryon Davis, Calicia Roland, Bianca Davison, and Alexis Shires during pre-game ceremonies.
