March 14, 2018 - Join Dr. Dixon Golden and his staff at Golden Eye Clinic as they celebrate 40 years of providing more than exceptional eye care to our community and East Texas on Friday, March 16th from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the Clinic on Highway 7 East.
Dr. David Dixon Golden has lived and worked in Center for forty years after opening his first eye clinic in May 1978. Dr. Golden and his wife Melody raised their three sons here and now have two grandchildren.
He is a 1977 graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry and received his license on March 1, 1978. In 2008 he was recognized by the university as "Alumni of the Year." He has served as adjunct professor of Optometric Medicine and Surgery for the University of Houston College of Optometry for the past 25 years where he teaches optometric interns.
Dr. Golden's first Clinic was located on Hurst Street next to the old Center Memorial Hospital later called Shelby Regional Hospital. He started the Clinic with one employee, Lorena Alford. Forty successful years later, with a move and expansion, Golden Eye Clinic now employs 16 staff members.
He has served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Optometric Association and was given five "President's Awards" for "outstanding contributions to the profession of Optometry." In 2004, Dr Golden was given the "Texas Optometrist of the Year Award" by the Texas Optometric Association.
He was first appointed to the Texas Optometry Board on August 23, 2003. On July 14, 2009 he was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to be the "Presiding Officer" of the Texas Optometry Board and was the first optometrist that was actually appointed by the Governor as the "Presiding Officer". He served in that position until 2016.
He is a 40-year member of the Center Lion's Club and is on the Board of Directors of Shelby Savings Bank. In the past he served on the staff of Shelby Regional Hospital.
