Panola College Baseball Preview - Spring 2019
January 25, 2019 - Panola College Baseball opens up their season this Saturday, January 26, at 6 p.m at Jim Reeves Memorial Field in Carthage, TX against Baton Rouge Community College. The Ponies will play a single 9 inning game on Saturday, then return to action on Sunday with a double header to complete the 3 game series with Baton Rouge Community College. The Ponies, led by Coach Todd Shelton in his 12th season at Panola, return 10 players from the 2017-2018 team. Leading the way for the returners are sophomore pitchers Jarret Whorff from Winnsboro, TX and Chris Edwards from Garrison, TX, as well as sophomore infielders Cam Sibley from Geismar, LA and Kade Clemens from Gilmer, TX.
Coach Shelton feels this year's team has much needed maturity on the mound. Whorff, Edwards, and Garret Hermes, sophomore pitcher from Rowlett, TX all in sequential order, lead the Ponies in innings pitched on the mound last season.
Sibley and Clemens return as the two most veteran position players having started and played in most games last season.
Recruiting Coordinator Trevor Rainey assisted by Pitching Coach Grant Freels, brought in 20 new Ponies this year. The Ponies had a great fall season with the returning leadership as well as the emergence of some of the new faces. Panola Baseball is ready for the season to get under way.
Other returning sophomores include: Outfielder - Joe Stephens of Gonzales, LA, Outfielder - Chase Hodges of Bossier City, LA, pitcher - Nick Sewell of Dallas, TX, catcher - Trent Touchet of Shreveport, LA, and pitcher - Zach Goree of Woden, TX,
