Willis Blackwell Republican Candidate for Shelby County Commissioner Precinct 3 (Pd Pol Adv)

February 19, 2020 - I am Willis Blackwell, currently your Shelby County Sheriff. As I prepare to retire from 45+ years of law enforcement, I would love to continue my service to the citizens of Shelby County as Commissioner of Precinct 3. The word “retire” is simply a figure of speech. I have no intention of retiring from work. Whether it is to be as your commissioner is up to you. I have 2 opponents who are both fine men, however, I am running based on what I can and promise to do for you the citizens and taxpayers of Shelby County and Precinct 3:

  • I will continue to employ the most qualified and experienced crew possible.
  • All county roads are important – none more than others. As Game Warden for 15 years in this county, I’ve traveled all these roads in the best and worst conditions.
  • I will be available to you 24/7 as I have been for the past seven years.
  • I will make it a priority to have all equipment up and running and out on the roads.
  • My crew and I will travel the roads and try to prioritize work as best we can so that we have a working plan with goals to make improvements.
  • I have had a very good working relationship with the current Commissioners Court and feel I can work well with them going forward.
  • I will always have your best interest in mind when making decisions that affect your tax dollars and how they are spent.
  • I have worked with a $1.7m budget for the last 7 years without overspending and several years being able to save enough for new patrol cars without going into other funds.
  • The experience gained from being an elected official for 2 terms is a tremendous tool in being an effective and productive commissioner.
  • Your voice should be heard and I would like to be that voice for you.

Shelby County has been my home for the past 40 years. I have raised my children, grandchildren and now a precious great-grandson here. This is our home and I want to do my part to see it prosper and grow for their future as well as yours. I would appreciate your vote and support in the March 3 Republican Primary. Early voting starts February 18th and will be at the Center Community House on San Augustine Street in Center.
