September 14, 2015 - East Texas Poultry Festival Doo Dah Parade Chairman, Hollie Adams, announces Center Tire Company as the 2015 Platinum Parade Sponsor. The parade will circle the Historic Downtown Center Square, led by the Shelby County Junior Chamber of Commerce, at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23. Pre-registration for this popular event is not required. Participants are to line up at the Farmers State Bank Drive-Thru at 4:00 p.m. Gold sponsors for the parade are Ihlo Sales and Imports and Professional Title Service.
To launch the action-packed day you are invited to enjoy the annual kick-off Chicken Fajita Luncheon sponsored by East Texas Poultry Supply. Orders are now being accepted. Forms are available on the Shelby County Chamber’s festival page at www.shelbycountychamber.com or by calling 598-3682 or emailing info@shelbycountychamber.com by Friday, September 18. The meal includes two fajitas, chips, salsa and a drink for $7 per plate and delivery is available for five or more advance orders.
The Chicken Cooking Contest begins at 5:00 p.m. and is open for participation in three categories, Youth (ages 8 – 17), Adult (age 18 and above) and Professional. Contestants will be provided with approximately 36 inches of space in a covered presentation area to decorate. Participants are asked to prepare their recipe to create 25-30 sample size servings and bring serving utensils. Participants must be set up before the Doo Dah Parade in order to maintain the time schedule. All participants must have some type of cover for their dish.
Chicken Cooking Contest awards and trophies will be presented in each category with First Place $100, Second Place $50 and Third Place $25. All cooking awards will be presented at the conclusion of the Rooster Revel Auction at 6:00 p.m. Event attendees can purchase Food Sampling tickets for $5.00 and ticket holders can vote in the People’s Choice Award and Best Dressed Table categories
Festival Chairman Jim Sawyer stated the Rooster Revel live and silent auction will be happening simultaneously during the Chicken Cooking Contest. The exclusive Rooster Revel 2015 metal art silhouette designs are created and hand painted by the Center High School Agribusiness and Marketing students led by teacher, Jessica Shadix. The limited edition artistic creations will be on display for public viewing at various business locations prior to the auction. Rooster Revel Chairman, Andi Foster, invites the public to come bid, buy and enjoy samples of great chicken dishes.
