Center ISD Centennial Celebration To Begin

September 1, 2021 - The residents of Center join CHS students and alumni in the celebration of 100 years of excellence in purple and gold!

The first competition team representing Center High School began play a century ago as 20 year-old F.L. Moffett organized and coached the first Center football team in the 1921 season. During the next six years, baseball clubs, track & field teams, cheerleading squads and debate societies would also represent the high school. Then in 1927, the student body held a contest and election to create and choose the Center mascot; from that year forward all Center teams competed as Roughriders.

This year we begin the Centennial Celebration with the Centennial Football Game on October 22 vs Madisonville. That night we will recognize 100 years of football competition by presenting the All-Century Roughrider Football Team. All honorees and their families will be invited for that recognition.

During this year's CHS Annual Alumni Celebration on September 4, we will select the members of the All-Century Team. The Centennial Committee invites any and all interested alumni and fans to attend the ceremony at the John Dean Windham Civic Center. Immediately following the induction of our new Hall of Honor alumni honoree, the "selection committee" will gather to discuss possible All-Century Roughriders. Nominations can also be sent by email to thisweekinshelbycounty@yahoo.com.

We hope to see you on Saturday, September 4 (doors open at 9am, celebration is from 10-11am) at the Windham Civic Center to pick the team and again on October 22 to honor them during the game!
