Shelby County Walk for a Change Club: Get Up, Get Fit – Walk Across Texas

Shelby County Get Up Get Fit – Summer Walk Across Texas Program

May 15, 2024 - Hello, Shelby County Community/ Businesses, there is no right or wrong time to start your fitness journey. This is a great way to prepare yourself for the upcoming Poultry Festival 5K in October.

So, let’s Get Up and Get Fit together by walking enough miles together to “Walk Across Texas!” Recruit a group of eight people or sign up as a solo walker and participate with other teams and individuals to walk and get back active over eight weeks from May 20, 2024 – July 8, 2024. The goal is to walk at least 830 miles (the distance from Longview to El Paso) in eight weeks. You can walk around the park, your neighborhood, at the gym, wherever your feet will take you to meet the goal. You can also participate in other activities as well; 20 minutes of physical activity is equal to one mile in most cases. There is no entry fee. The event is open to businesses and the public, both adults and youth. We can meet up and walk or you can walk individually. Everyone will exercise and/or walk at YOUR OWN PACE! Each winning team or solo walker will receive a prize!

Kickoff is Monday, May 20, 2024 at Portacool Park from 6pm to 6:30pm.

All registration will be online. Please contact the Shelby County Extension office, (936) 598-7744. Monday – Friday, 8am – 3pm for registration packet.
