Lady Tigers Take District 23 Basketball Tie-Breaker over Lady Bears

The Tenaha Lady Tigers varsity basketball team won a District 23 2A tie-breaker by defeating Timpson High School by a 45-32 score on Friday. The win broke a 13-1 district tie between the two teams and gives Tenaha the first seed in the bi-district round, a 15-game winning streak, and a 29-6 overall season record. The Lady Bears will be the second seed for the playoffs and they stand at 19-14 for the year.

Tenaha jumped out to a 6-2 point advantage midway through the first period. At the end of the first quarter Tenaha led 13-6. The Lady Tigers held a 16-8 lead halfway through the second frame and they led 20-14 at the halftime intermission.

The Lady Bears fought back and sophomore center Taylor Stewart sank a bucket that tied the game at 24-24 with 2:28 minutes left in the third stanza. Tenaha bounced back with a 5-point run to end the third frame and go into the final period with a 28-24 advantage.

Tenaha was able to outpace Timpson by a 15-8 point differential during the fourth quarter to earn the 45-32 win. The loss ended a 6-game winning streak for the Lady Bears that dated back to January 14, when they fell to the Lady Tigers in the first round of conference play. The two teams will find out who they play in the bi-district round of the Texas UIL Basketball Playoffs later this week.

The Lady Bears were led by Natalie Johnson with 18 points. Maliah Norris scored 9. The Lady Tigers were led by Angel Alexander with 20 points and Keyala Giles scored 11.
