Sheriff Blackwell to Address January TAGHS Meeting

January 11, 2016 - Forty-seven men and one woman have served as Shelby County Sheriff since the office was created in 1838, during the days of the Republic. Willis Blackwell became the forty-eighth person to hold the office when he was sworn in on Jan. 1, 2013. Sheriff Blackwell will be the guest speaker at the January 20 meeting of the Timpson Area Genealogical and Heritage Society.

A Viet Nam era Navy veteran, Mr. Blackwell served as a Texas Game Warden for 26 years, beginning in 1972. He first joined the Shelby County Sheriff's Department in 2001. He has been married to the former Ann Moody for over 30 years. Sheriff Blackwell will share general information about the responsibilities of the Sheriff's Office as well as personal recollections and anecdotes and a few interesting facts about the office most citizens might not know.

TAGHS meets the third Wednesday of each month at 2:00 PM in the meeting room of the Timpson Public Library on the corner of Austin and Bremond Streets. The public is invited.
