The Timpson Bears varsity baseball team fell to the Chireno Owls by a 15-5 run score in a District 23 2A conference game at Nacogdoches Dragons Ballpark. The loss puts the Bears at 8-6 this season and at 1-6 in District 23. The Owls are 5-9-2 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

The Bears held their own early and they took a 1-0 run lead in the top of the first inning when Nathan Searcy walked and scored when Seth Duke singled to leftfield.  The Bears extended their lead to 2-0 later in the inning when C. Bruister scored on a passed ball behind the Owl’s catcher.

Searcy scored after walking in the top of the third inning and scoring after a fielder’s choice on a teammate’s grounder. The Bears held a 3-0 run advantage.

Disaster struck for THS when Chireno rallied and brought seventeen batters to the plate in the bottom of the third inning. The Bears used three different pitchers, Colton Carroll, Jackson Holloway, and C. Crawford, in the third frame before the inning ended with CHS holding an 11-3 run lead.

Timpson fought back to score runs in the fourth and fifth inning which cut the Owl’s lead to 11-5 but another Chireno rally in the bottom of the fifth inning gave CHS a 10-run lead which ended the game due to the league’s 10-run mercy-rule.

The Bears will host the Gary Bobcats on Tuesday, April 1, at 6 p.m. at Bears Ballpark.
