The Shelbyville Dragons Varsity Football Team opened the regular season with a 56-14 loss at home to the Troup Tigers on Friday. The Tigers wasted no time as they scored on the first play from scrimmage. Logan Chambers took the first down snap 68 yards to the endzone for the game’s first score at the 11:40 mark of the first quarter. Anthony Zuniga booted through the first of what would eventually be eight extra point kicks for his team and Troup led 7-0 points early.

On Shelbyville’s second offensive drive the Dragons went 89 yards in nine plays and Ronnie Williams capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. A missed extra point cut the Tigers lead to 7-6 with 4:29 still left in the first quarter. Shelbyville’s next drive was proving to be successful as well until Tiger Brett Wells stepped in front of a Dragon’s pass and returned an interception 62 yards for another Troup touchdown which gave THS a 21-6 advantage with 2:52 left in the opening period.

Troup’s Wells, Dee Hollie and Cam Hollie each added scores for Troup in the second quarter and the Tigers lead ballooned to 42-6 by halftime.

With 6:06 minutes left in the third quarter, Dragon Gavin McDonald hit Hunter Harvey for a 12-yard touchdown strike which cut the THS lead to 42-14, after Harvey converted the 2-point conversion. This proved to be the final score of the game for Shelbyville.

Troup was able to add another touchdown by Dee Hollie before the third quarter ended and they eventually added another touchdown by Noble Kendrick in the fourth stanza to grow their lead to 56-14 by game’s end.

Dragons Head Coach Jerrod Wallace will regroup the team and prepare them to travel to New Boston on Friday, September 5, 2025 for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Lions Stadium. The Lions have a 0-0 win-loss record.
