Center Roughriders Stadium on Friday, October 10, 2025 –
The Center Roughriders varsity football team suffered a disappointing 60-14 point District 8 4A-2 football loss to the Carthage Bulldogs on Friday. Center’s season record falls to 2-4 and they are 0-1 in the conference. Carthage stands at 6-0, 0-1.
The Bulldogs first offensive drive stalled when they turned the ball over on downs on a fourth-down-and two at the Center 4-yardline. On the Roughriders first drive disaster struck when a stumble caused quarterback Easton Wulf to be pinned inside the endzone for a two-point safety, this gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 point lead with 6:38 minutes left in the first period of play. After Center free-kicked the football back to the Bulldogs Carthage quarterback Jett Surratt hit Bryston Price for a 57-yard touchdown strike which helped give the Bulldogs a 9-0 advantage with 5:35 left in the first stanza. With just 1:38 left in the opening period Surratt hit Price again for another touchdown catch which extended the Carthage lead to 16-0 after a Christian Monreal extra point kick.
A 61-yard kickoff return by Jeremy Bluford set the Roughriders up in great field position on their next offensive drive. Five plays later Jaysis Villegas scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with only seven seconds remaining in the first frame. An extra point kick by Pablo Huichapa helped the ‘Riders cut the ‘Dogs lead to 16-7.
Carthage scores by Benny Smith, Andrew Gwinn, Anthony Cromwell, and another Center safety, due to a bad snap, extended the Carthage lead to 39-7 by the midway break.
Two Carthage touchdown receptions by Jaden Jeffress in the third quarter extended the Bulldogs lead to 53-7 going into the final period of play.
Sean Bundy helped extend the Carthage lead to 60-7 with a touchdown just six seconds from the start of the final quarter. Center got the final scores of the contest when Zy’Keyvius Villegas scored on a 14-yard touchdown run and Huichapa added an extra point conversion kick with 8:03 minutes remaining which cut the Carthage lead to 60-14.
The Roughriders will host the Bullard Panthers on Friday, October 17, 2025. Kickoff at Roughriders Stadium will be at 7:30 p.m. Bullard is 3-3 overall and 1-0 in District 8 after beating Rusk 24-7 on Friday.
