Shelbyville’s Dragons Varsity Football team improved their season mark to 1-5 and their District 11 2A-1 mark is now 1-1 after a 17-14 home win over the Timpson Bears 3-3, 1-1.

Timpson gained the first lead after the Dragons opening drive stalled and they punted the football to the Bears. Timpson went 73 yards in 10 plays and Jeffrey Richardson found the endzone on a 9-yard touchdown run with 5:50 minutes left in the opening period. An Alexis Castillo extra point kick gave THS a 7-0 point lead.

With 10:25 left in the second quarter Edwin Vasquez got the Dragons on the scoreboard with a 31-yard field goal which cut Timpson’s lead to 7-3. Richardson later helped extended the THS lead to 14-3 with a 1-yard touchdown run with 3:59 left in the second quarter.

Gavin McDonald scored a Dragons touchdown, on a 9-yard keeper run, to cut the Bears lead to 14-10 after an Alexis Castillo extra point conversion.

The third quarter proved to be defensive with a Bears drive ending on a fumble, recovered by Detoris Hubbard, and then a Dragons drive ending on a turn-over-on downs at the Bears 1-yard line.

A Bears punt in the fourth stanza gave the Dragons the football near midfield. Seven plays later John Hignight scored on a weaving run from 20 yards out to give the Dragons their first lead. A Vasquez extra point kick gave the Dragons a 17-14 advantage with 5:33 left in the game and proved to be the game’s last score.

On Friday, October 24, 2025 Shelbyville will travel to San Augustine for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Wolves Stadium.
