Born March 21, 1947, in Shelby County, Gwen is the daughter of Earl Vines Fitzgerald and Louise Goodwyn Fitzgerald. She worked as the office manager for Ihlo Sales and Import. Gwen was a faithful servant of the Lord and a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer.
Gwen Hughes entered into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, November 15th, at home. She was a very special sister and special wife. Everyone that knew her found her to be a delightful and personal lady. Her first thought seemed always to be, “What can I do to help?”
I know how much everyone liked and respected her. She had many friends and loved each one dearly. She was a lady of exceptional warmth and wisdom and her loss leaves a void that will not be readily filled.
She gave of herself (perhaps the greatest gift of all) and those were fortunate enough to know her know she loved the Lord and is pain free and rejoicing in Heaven.
She is survived by:
Husband, William (Bill) Hughes of Center
Brother, Frank Fitzgerald of Center
She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl Vines Fitzgerald and Louise Goodwyn Fitzgerald; and her brother, Ray Fitzgerald.
Pallbearers will be Shad Lout, Michael Fitzgerald, Ricky Lout, Shannon Ramsey, Gerardo Garcia, and Matthew Mettauer. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Bill Mettauer, Ron Bogue, Ronnie Adams, Chris Watlington, and Don Wheeler.
Bill and I would like to give a “Special Thanks” to Sister Services Private Home Care and to caregivers Vicky, Pat, Misty, Deb, and Marilyn for the loving care that was given to Gwen.
