Robert “Bob” John Covington

Our beloved husband and father, Robert “Bob” John Covington, passed away on March 14, 2026.

Memorial graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Sand Hill Cemetery in Center.

He was born to John Elton Covington and Geraldine (Samford) Covington on September 4, 1944, in Center, Texas. He was a graduate of Center High School in 1962. He held key jobs during construction of both Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn Reservoirs, was a mail carrier in San Augustine, and a driver for Petrolane in DeRidder before working for Frito-Lay. He retired from Frito-Lay after 30 years of being a route salesman. After retirement, he worked with his close friend and brother-in-law, Jarrell Shofner, operating a music & billiards business in Jasper, Texas.

Bob was active in the Hudson, Texas community when he resided there in the 1980s. He served as a volunteer firefighter and city council member for many years. He also served as Mayor pro-tem for a short time. He was instrumental in serving with a group of citizens to help procure a waste water management facility for the area.

In 1966, he married his beautiful wife, Marie. He was the beloved father to three daughters who loved him dearly, Angela McInnis of Nacogdoches, Cheryl Alexander of Center and Sheila Wagnon of Aledo. He was blessed with three sons-in-laws who loved him, Stephen McInnis of Nacogdoches, Dale Alexander of Center and Daniel Wagnon of Aledo. The lights of his eyes were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jessica and her husband Josh Boggs of Midland, Allison McInnis of Austin, Dalton Alexander of Center, Luke and Noah Wagnon of Aledo, Jake Alexander of Center, Ellie, JD, and Charlie Boggs of Midland.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie and his sister, Tommy Shofner of Jasper. This family loved their Poppa to the moon and back!

Honorary pallbearers are his nephews, Billy and Glynn Shofner, great-nephew Bobby Shofner, his three sons-in-law, and grandsons.
