VFW Post 8904 to Observe 81st Anniversary of V-J Day

August 25, 2026 - World War II officially ended on September 2, 1945, when Japanese representatives signed the Instrument of Surrender aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. That solemn ceremony, now known as V-J Day (Victory over Japan), closed the costliest conflict in human history and brought peace after years of extraordinary sacrifice.

Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 will hold an observance of the 81st anniversary on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the 1885 Historic Courthouse in Center. The program begins at 9am and a memorial wreath will be placed in honor of all who served.

The public is cordially invited to attend and join in remembering the Americans who fought and those who waited at home. “Lest We Forget”.
