Below is a description of the work planned for Sept. 28 through Oct. 2 in TxDOT's Lufkin District.
Project timelines are subject to change due to weather conditions and material availability.
Shelby County maintenance projects: Maintenance crews will perform leveling and overlay work on FM 3172. Sign work and herbicide application, and patch work will occur in various parts of the county.
Lufkin Area Office (Angelina, Houston, and Sabine counties)
Angelina County construction projects
- US 59, Redland Project: Dirt work will be performed daily with paving occurring at night along the northbound frontage road. The work will occur behind traffic barriers, so lane closures are not expected.
- Business (BU) 59/First Street, resurfacing, and striping: The contractor will prepare for night work to be performed on Monday, Oct. 5 in the 1100 block of Timberland Drive/BU 59.
- Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 324, bridge replacement and roadway rehabilitation: Work at the north end of FM 324 will require lane closures. Traffic will follow flaggers and traffic lights. The contractors will continue assembling bridge components.
- State Loop (SL) 287, auxiliary and turn lanes: Widening operations at the Southwood Drive exit ramp will get underway.
- FM 1818, bridge and culvert maintenance: Crews will be working on the Stovall Creek culvert on FM 1818 east of Diboll. No lane closures are planned.
- US 59/US 69, cable median barrier: Work will continue on US 59 in Livingston and US 69 near Zavalla. Lane closures will occur.
Angelina County maintenance projects
- Leveling work is planned for SL 36/Old Mill Road and FM 706. Crews will be patching potholes on SH 103, and on various other Farm-to-Market roads. Sign work will occur on US 59 and other locations in the county.
- Herbicide application, delineator work, and mailbox installations will occur throughout the county.
Houston County construction projects
- SL 304, overlay: Slope and shoulder work will continue, requiring intermittent lane closures. Work near the railroad bridge will require traffic to follow a pilot car.
- FM 2076, rehabilitation, and roadway widening: The contractor will remove old pavement, bring in material for the new road base, and treat cement in portions of the road. Work on drainage structures and driveways is also planned. Traffic will need to follow a pilot car through the work zone.
- FM 227, widening and rehabilitation: Right-of-way prep will continue in the project area.
- FM 3016, widening and rehabilitation: The contractor is preparing to begin work on Oct. 1. Drivers should stay alert for changing traffic patterns.
Houston County maintenance projects
- Spot base repairs will be performed on SH 19 south: Crews will be coring on SH 21 east and SL 304. Sign, patch, and herbicide work will take place throughout the county. .
Livingston Area Office (Polk, San Jacinto, and Trinity counties)
Polk/San Jacinto County construction project
- US 59, cable median barrier.
- Work will occur in sections near Seven Oaks.
Polk County construction projects
- US 59, Corrigan Relief Route: Work on various components of the US 287 main-lane bridge will continue. Barriers will be set near the eastbound US 287 lanes. Subgrade work is planned at the south tie-in. Prime coating will occur in areas of the south US 287 main lanes. Shoulder work is planned along the main lanes and U-turn area. Crews will tie and build steel forms, install culverts at the north tie in and work on driveways as well.
US/BU 59, Diboll and northern Polk County mill and inlay: Milling ahead of crack repairs will continue.
US 59, Morgan Creek bridge maintenance: Northbound traffic will be reduced to one line while bridge pilings are installed.
County road bridge projects
- Piney Creek on Carmona Road: Excavation and riprap installation will occur.
- Long King Creek on Old Bearing Road: Crews will install guardrail and work establishing vegetation for erosion control.
Polk County maintenance projects
- Edge work will occur on FM 942 on Monday. Mill and inlay operations on the US 59 frontage roads are planned for Tuesday through Thursday. Crews will also apply herbicide and perform sign maintenance around the county.
San Jacinto County construction projects
- US 59, Shepherd to Cleveland upgrade to interstate standards.
- The contractor will install brackets and weld deck panels at the main lane U-turn bridge. Barrier placement and construction of a de-acceleration lane along the northbound frontage road to accommodate oil and gas operations is planned. A pothole on the southbound main lanes south of FM 2914 will be patched.
- SH 156, Stephen Creek bridge replacement: Concrete deck work will continue.
San Jacinto County maintenance projects
- Widening work on FM 946 is planned, as is county-wide sign maintenance.
Trinity County maintenance projects
- Crews will perform edge work on FM 358, SH 19, and FM 2915, which will require lane closures. Herbicide will be applied along FM 357. Patch work, road sweeping, and sign maintenance are planned as well.
Nacogdoches Area Office (Nacogdoches, San Augustine, and Shelby counties)
Nacogdoches County construction projects
- US 59, intersection improvements at SL 224.
- Bridge work between US 59 and SH 7 will continue. The contractor will pour concrete pavement as well.
- BU 59, SH/BS 7, SH/BS 21, and FM 2259 striping: Maintenance hole, curb, and road repair may require nighttime lane closures.
- FM 2259, widening and improvement
- Right-of-way preparation will continue.
- SH 7/CR 724, bridge replacements
- Daily lane closures are expected while the contractor continues work on driveways and seeding.
- US 59, turn-lane extensions: Barriers have been installed in the work zone.
- US 259, overlay between SH 204 and FM 698: Work is expected to get underway Monday, Sept. 28.
Nacogdoches County maintenance projects
- Ramp closures at the SH 21/SL 224 ramps will occur throughout the week for mill and inlay work. Details for the sequence of closures are available on the Lufkin District's social media accounts. Herbicide application, road patching, and sign work are also planned.
Sabine County construction projects
- US 96, road rehabilitation
- Crews will continue laying hot mix, requiring daily lane closures.
- Sabine County maintenance projects
- Seal coating on FM 83 will continue. Sign maintenance and herbicide application will occur countywide.
San Augustine County maintenance projects
- Crews will perform overlay work on FM 226, and traffic will need to follow a pilot car. Sign maintenance and herbicide application will occur throughout the county.
Reminder to Motorists
Drivers are urged to remain alert in work zones, obey posted traffic controls, and watch for construction crews and equipment. Remember to move over or slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit when passing or approaching TxDOT vehicles, law enforcement, and other vehicles with activated overhead lights on the side of the road.
