Marilyn was raised in Crockett, Texas, where she attended Crockett High School with the Bulldog Class of 1956. On October 23, 1955, she married the love of her life, J P Corder. Together, they shared nearly 71 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, family, faith, and service to their community.

Marilyn worked as a bookkeeper for Ben E. Keith and other businesses throughout her career, but her heart was always devoted to serving others. Her dedication to the Timpson community was evident through her many years of public service and civic involvement. She served the City of Timpson as judge, chaired Frontier Days, and led the community's Gospel Show. She also served as past president of the Timpson Chamber of Commerce.

Marilyn was instrumental in the development and support of the Timpson Library, serving as a board member and championing the importance of literacy and community resources. Her commitment to service extended beyond the local community through her involvement with the Louisiana Extension Agency, where she held both local and state positions.

A longtime and faithful member of Faith Assembly of God, Marilyn's faith was an important part of her life. She served on the church board and as women’s ministry leader, giving her time and talents to the church and its congregation.
