Recognizing Leadership • Integrity • Character • Excellence
October 30, 2026 - The Shelbyville ISD Police Department is proud to announce the FIRST recipient of its newly established Challenge Coin Recognition Program - Lila Koltonski!
This special initiative was created to recognize students who demonstrate outstanding leadership, exceptional moral character, personal integrity, and a willingness to go above and beyond what is expected of them in their everyday lives.
We believe that true leadership isn’t defined by a title, popularity, or recognition. It is defined by the choices we make, the example we set, and the way we treat others.
Doing the right thing isn’t always the easiest choice, but it is always the right choice.
Our first recipient, Lila Koltonski, has demonstrated the qualities we hope to encourage in every student: the courage to stand up for what is right, the compassion to help others, the integrity to make good decisions, and the character to lead by example.
This recognition goes beyond academic achievements, athletic accomplishments, or everyday expectations. It honors a student who has demonstrated that character matters, actions speak louder than words, and one person can make a positive difference.

The meaning behind the Challenge Coin
In law enforcement, a challenge coin represents honor, commitment, respect, and excellence. Through this program, we hope to pass those same values on to the next generation of leaders.
Receiving this coin is more than simply receiving an award. It is a symbol of our department’s appreciation and respect for a student who has demonstrated extraordinary character.
Our message to every Shelbyville ISD student is simple:
- Lead by example.
- Treat others with dignity and respect.
- Have the courage to stand up for what is right.
- Help others without expecting anything in return.
- Do the right thing, even when nobody's watching.
To our first recipient - Lila Koltonski:
Your actions have not gone unnoticed. You have demonstrated that leadership begins with character and that doing what is right can have a lasting impact on those around you.
We are proud of you, we recognize you, and we challenge you to continue setting the example for others to follow.
Congratulations on becoming the FIRST recipient of the Shelbyville ISD Police Department Challenge Coin!
Because great character deserves to be recognized, and tomorrow’s leaders are walking our hallways today.
