The story on the dog attack hit home for me. I have been dog bitten three time within the Center city limits, twice by the same dog. The dogs were not strays they were just out running loose in town. The city police did respond to that particular issue. I wonder if people are aware that walkability is one category used to rate towns. I think the city leaders have made a lot of improvements in this area but the fact that there is no leash law or real control of strays negates some of this progress.
There are streets I will not walk on because of aggressive dogs. The other day I turned the corner at the First Methodist Church on foot and was confronted by a pack of 5-6 large dogs. Luckily they ran off when I hollered at them. Allowing dogs to run free in our town is not safe for the dogs or pedestrians and not taking care of the stray problem both dogs and cats is inhumane.
Sincerely,
Eve Durham
