Tenaha Defeats Gateway in a Lopsided Scorefest

September 12, 2016 (More Photos) - The Tenaha Tigers defeated the visiting Dallas Gateway Charter Academy Gators by a 67-0 score, on Friday, by a 67-0 final score.

Onterio Thompson scored Tenahas’ first touchdown at the 10:33 mark of the first period. Abel Rodriguez added his first, of eight, extra-point kicks for the night, giving THS a 7-0 lead.

Thompson added his second score of the game with 8:20 left in the opening period and Tenaha led 14-0. Teammate Trai Gardner scored a receiving touchdown with 2:27 in the first quarter to give THS a 21-0 lead. He added two more scores with 11:27 and 8:12 still left in the second period.

Tenaha sacked Gateways’ Tyler Bussel in the endzone for a 2-point safety with 7:17 left before halftime, and led 37-0. Trenton Soto added his first score of the season, with 4:32 remaining in the first half, and THS led 44-0. Tenaha added one more score before the midway break when Jordan Castillo intercepted a Gator pass, and Thompson pounded in a 2-yard touchdown run which gave Tenaha a lopsided 51-0 lead at the midway intermission.

Gardner and Ladarrius Garrett added second half scores, and Rodriguez kicked a late field goal, to bring the final tally to 67-0 by the game’s end.

The Tigers are now 3-0 and will travel to Clarksville to face their Tigers on Friday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m. Clarksville lost to Big Sandy by a 56-15 score and are 0-3 on the season.
