Barbara June Hooper was born on April 14, 1945, in the Bethel Community of Logansport, Louisiana, to Louis and Rellie Creech. The youngest of four children, she grew up surrounded by the love of her parents, siblings, and grandparents, who lived on the same family land. Being the baby of the family came with all the affection and attention that shaped her gentle, spirited nature.
On March 6th, June passed away peacefully in the loving care of her nieces, Jennifer Peters and Andrea Tatum. She was tired and had recently shared, “It is well with my soul.”
Graveside serves will be on Saturday, March 14th at 11:00 at Wimberly Cemetery at 1766 FM 3172 Shelbyville, Texas. Her nephew, Pastor Jody Hooper will preside. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to Desoto Parish Animal Shelter, 404 Liberty Lane, Grand Cane, LA. 71032-an organization close to June’s heart.
While attending Logansport High School, June never imagined that her heart would one day belong to a boy from across the Sabine River at rival Joaquin High School. She and Jim dated for five years and married on May 1, 1965. Last year, they celebrated sixty years of a life well-lived and well-loved together. When Jim passed away in September, she never recovered from the heartbreak. She had shared that she was ready to be with him and her family, who were in heaven waiting for her.
She grew up as an active member at Bethel United Methodist Church and later became a member of the First Methodist Church of Logansport. She enjoyed a forty-year career in banking at Farmers State Bank, where she was known for her reliability, kindness, and dedication. She also served her community as a member of the Logansport Town Council, participated in the Republican Women’ s Group, and was a proud member of the Krewe of Aquarius.
June was known for her generous spirit and her exceptional cooking, especially when it was fresh vegetables from Jim’s garden. Her happiest moments were spent on her back porch overlooking the river, a place of peace she cherished deeply. She loved animals, especially her dog and kitties. Everyone who knew her understood the most important place in her heart belonged to her son Wade. She delighted in a day of shopping, an afternoon of Mexican food and margaritas, and an evening at the casino.
She is survived by her devoted son;
