Joan Anderson

Joan Anderson, 95, of Tenaha, TX, passed away on Saturday morning, Sept. 23, 2023, in Tyler. She was born on March 4, 1928, in Mt. Pleasant, TX to Aubrey Branch “Cub” and Hazel Snider Gilpin.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 1-2pm on Wednesday at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel prior to a funeral service at 2pm officiated by Dr. Bill Holmes. A private interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Tenaha.

Joan graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1945 and earned her Bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in 1949. Joan married Marshall Lee Anderson on Nov. 12, 1949, in Mt. Pleasant. They welcomed four children together and shared almost 50 years of marriage before Marshall passed away in 1999. Joan was also preceded in death by her daughter, Marsha Sue Anderson and her sister, Sue Vickery.

Joan had a gentle, quiet spirit. She lived with a devotion to her Christian faith, family, and community. She filled her home with love and served as a fixture for her children and grandchildren. They felt her love through her steadfast patience, kindness, goodness, and provision of home-cooked meals. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Tenaha where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a current member of the First Baptist Church in Tyler. Joan was an involved community member and especially involved with Tenaha schools, attending sporting events, working concessions and lending a needed hand. Encouraging faith-based education was important to Joan. She was a supporter of ETBU, Baylor University, and other charitable causes.

Pallbearers are Austin Anderson, Steven Anderson, Bill Anderson, John Sampognaro, Byron Wier, and Matt Wilson.
