L. Louis Garrett Jr. was born on June 1, 1962, in Center, Texas, to the late L. Louis Garrett Sr. and Dorothy Mae Holman-Garrett. He passed away unexpectedly in Flint, Michigan, on February 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and laughter that will never be forgotten.
He was a man of remarkable intelligence and depth, often sharing his thoughts like a true philosopher, offering guidance and insight to those fortunate enough to know him. His sense of humor was unforgettable—he had a way of making people laugh at just the right moment. Many will remember his playful spirit and the jokes he shared that never failed to bring a smile.
Louis’s life began in Center, Texas, where he attended Center Elementary School. He later moved to Orange, TX, where he attended M.B. North Jr. High School and West Orange-Stark High School. He eventually returned to Center, TX, where he graduated with honors with the CHS class of 1980. During his time there, Louis was a proud member of the Center Roughriders basketball team.
After graduating from Center High School in 1980, Louis continued his education at Prairie View A&M University where he received his bachelor’s degree. He went on to settle in Saginaw, Michigan, where he began his career with General Motors as Quality Director, traveling around the world representing the company. He attended Central Michigan University working on his master’s degree where he became a member of the distinguished Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Louis later made his home in Flint, Michigan, where he retired and went on to build his own company, Nexus QSD Group, LLC as a Quality Trainer and Lean Six Sigma Director.
A memorial service was held on March 28, 2026, in Flint, MI. The family will host a Memorial Remembrance Celebration in honor of L. Louis Garrett, II on June 6, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Pineywoods Outreach Center. This will be a joyful time of reflection, love, and celebration of his life. All family members, classmates, and friends are warmly invited to attend. Guests are encouraged to wear black, gold, and/or purple in honor of being a graduate of Center High School, Prairie View A&M University and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
He was preceded in death by his Uncle L.W. Garrett (Mary Ruth), Aunt Alice Garrett, and his loving grandmother, Elvira Garrett-Williams, all who helped raise him and played significant roles in shaping his life.
