It is with both sorrow and gratitude that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and faithful servant of the Lord, Margie Slatter Dorner, who entered her eternal rest on July 27, 2025 at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 3 weeks.
Margie was born on August 3rd, 1932 to Siess & Jenola Mercer in Winfield, Louisiana. She lived a long and full life marked by unwavering faith, deep compassion, and tireless love for her family and community. A true woman of God, she exemplified Christ’s love in every season of life—whether through a kind word, a gentle prayer, or a quiet act of service. Her Bible was well-worn, not from age, but from a lifetime of study, devotion, and prayer. Margie was a long time member of Center First Pentecostal Church.
She was the proud and loving mother of two sons, Basel and Rondel Slatter, and stepdaughter, Kathie Dorner Boatman, who carry on her legacy of strength and integrity. She was a devoted grandmother to four grandsons and one granddaughter, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, each of whom she held in her heart and prayed for daily by name.
Margie will be remembered for her warm smile, her comforting presence, her words of wisdom, and above all, her steadfast faith. Her home was always open, her arms always welcoming, and her prayers never ceasing. She was a quiet pillar of strength whose love shaped generations.
Though we mourn her absence, we rejoice knowing she has been welcomed into the arms of her Savior, greeted with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23)
A celebration of her life, a graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at noon at Restland Memorial Park in Carthage, Texas. There will be a visitation starting at 10:00 AM at Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
Her legacy of love and faith will live on through the lives of her family and all who were blessed to know her.
The family is extremely appreciative of the loving care she was given by the ladies of Lakeside Assisted Living for the last 4 years of her life as well as the ladies of Affinity Hospice of Center.
