Mangum Funeral Home announces services for 70 year old, Billy Jones, of Carthage. Services will be this (Tuesday) afternoon at two o’clock, at Mangum Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Ramah Cemetery, in Tenaha.
Among Mr. Jones’ survivors are his wife, Mary Jones, of Carthage, his children, Billy Jones, of Virginia, Charlene Rigdon, of Fairfield, Lori Hartley, of Carthage, Malisa Laffitte, of Mansfield, Tim Jones, of Beckville, Nathan Jones, of Virginia, and Kahlan Gilliam, of Howe, and one sister, Myrtlene Kirk, of Henderson.

Rachel Vaught Samford
Services for 88 year old, Rachel Vaught Samford, of Stockman, were held yesterday, but there was a mistake concerning where memorials should be sent. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Christian Life Center, of Mount Olive Baptist Church, care of Rusty Sanford, Timpson, Texas 75975.

Oline Mahan Franks, age 89, of Tyler, Texas "formerly of Clute & Baytown" passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2005 in Tyler, Texas. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Harold Garner Franks & Son, Kyle Wayne Franks. Roy Gerald English, 68, of Huxley, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2005. He was born January 1, 1939 in Mansfield, Louisiana to Coy English & Bennie Lewis English. Mr. English belonged to the Cutting Horse Association in Houston for many years. He attended Toledo Bend Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at Watson and Sons Chapel in Center, Texas with Rev. Jack Forbis and Rev. Doyle English officiating. Interment to follow at Pollard Cemetery in the Lula Community of DeSoto Parish. Pallbearers will be Arvel Huneycutt, C.P. English, Scott English, Wayne Elliott, Scotty Liles & Alan Murphy. Billy Joe Jackson, 70, of Center, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2005. He was born March 9, 1935 in Shelby County to William Henry Jackson and Viola Deason Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a barber in Center for many years. He was a lifelong resident of Center and a member of the Hillcrest Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Watson & Sons Chapel in Center with Bro. Henry officiating. Interment to follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Laura (Lois) Hughes, Age 79, of Center passed away November 10, 2005 at her residence in Center. Mrs. Hughes was born December 5, 1925 in Magnolia, Texas to Arnett Carroll and Osie Neidigk. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Center, Mrs. Hughes was also a member of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, she was the Curator at the Shelby County Historical Courthouse in Center, Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday, November 13, 2005 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Rev. Marion Huckaby and Rev. Eddie Mahan officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Center. Troy Lee Perry
Troy Lee Perry, 85, of Center, passed away Saturday, November 12, in Center. He was born August 12, 1928 in Percilla, Texas to E.E. and Ima Grace Foster Perry. He was a retired auto mechanic and a longtime salvage yard owner. Mr. Perry was also reserve deputy for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office for over 50 years. He was a member of the Sam Samford Masonic Lodge #149 and the Sharon Temple Shrine. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in WWII and a member of the First Baptist Church of Center. Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Dr. Jack Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Doctor T. G. Carroll
Dr. T.G. Carroll, 85, of Center, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2005 in Center. He was born September 28, 1920 in Shelbyville, Texas to Robert Henderson Carroll and Maggie Morrison Carroll. Mr. Carroll served in the US Army Air Corp. in WWII. Mr Carroll was a member of the Center Noon Lions Club, the Sons of Republic of Texas, the Texas Veterinarian Medical Association and the American Veterinarian Medical Association. He owned Carroll Animal Hospital from 1952 to 1986. He was a retired veterinarian. Mr. Carroll was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Center with Rev. Greg Megill officiating. Interment will follow at the Shelbyville Cemetery in Shelbyville, Texas.
Survivors include: Wife: Mary Kathryn Carroll of Center, Sons: Bill Carroll and wife Patti of Jacksonville and Bob Carroll and wife Dianna of Conroe. Daughter: Courtney Davis and husband Keith of San Augustine. 4 Grandchildren: Bob Brown, Wendee Brown & husband Steve Sellers, Jonathan Carroll and Kate Davis. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 pm at Mangum Funeral Home. She was born January 12, 1917 in Shelby County to Eugene & Emma Dallas Stanley Patterson. She was a Hairdresser for many years. Susan Francis Cornett, 81, of Center passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2005. She was born January 26, 1924 in New York, New York to Phillip Freeman & Susan Collins Freeman. Mrs. Cornett was the owner and operator of Dairy Circle Inn. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Center. Per the family's request Mrs. Cornett was cremated. Claude M. Hale
Claude M. Hale, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away November 14, 2005 in San Augustine. Mr. Hale was born July 25, 1913 in Searcy County, Arkansas to Charlie H. Hale & Janie Winds Hale. He served in US Army in WWII. He was a member of the Plum Grove Assembly of God Church in Cleveland. Mr. Hale worked as a railroad switchman. Robert Blain Crump
Robert Blain Crump, 79, of Joaquin, passed away Friday, November 18, 2005 at his home in Joaquin. He was born September 3, 1926 in Joaquin, Texas to Robert M. Crump and Myrtis Lilly Crump. Mr. Crump retired from the United States Air Force. He later worked as a dental lab technician . Mr. Crump was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Joaquin Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the VFW. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children. At his request, Mr. Crump's body was donated to the LSU medical center in Shreveport, Louisiana. Memorial services to be announced at a later date. Cornelia Lawson, of Aiken
Cornelia Joyce Hopkins Lawson passed away at her home in the Aiken Community on November 22, 2005 after a lengthy illness. She was born 81 years ago in Shelby County to Euel Loel Hopkins and Viola Cornelia Burn Hopkins. She lived in the Aiken Community all her life.
Mrs. Lawson was one of a long line of family educators including her uncle, aunt, mother, both sisters, two of her nieces and two of her nieces. She attended Excelsior Elementary School and graduated from Center High School in 1942. After attending Stephen F. Austin Teachers College in 1943, Mrs. Lawson taught at Camp Worth in San Augustine County from 1944 to 1946. In the school year of 1946-1947, she taught at Pine Hill School. This was the last year that "One Teacher- All Grades" schools were commonly in existence. In 1947-1948 she taught in the Fellowship School which is now in the Joaquin School District. In 1948, Mrs. Lawson began teaching elementary school at Excelsior.
Mrs. Lawson returned to SFA in 1950 where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, with a major in Business Administration. In 1952, she earned a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She continued teaching at Excelsior until she was appointed Superintendent in September 1977 reportedly the only female school superintendent in Texas at the time. She continued in the position until her retirement in 1985. After retiring, she returned to serve as part time counselor at Excelsior until her final retirement in June, 1992. At her death, she continued to serve the Excelsior School as a member of the School Board of Trustees.
Mrs. Lawson was a member of the Newborn Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Sheriff's Posse Rodeo Association, and Secretary of the Sardis Cemetery Fund. She was a lifetime member of the Mr. Herman Church of Christ, first attending with her grandparents, Jim and Ella Hopkins.
Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Thomas Lawson, father Euel Loel Hopkins, mother, Viola Cornelia Burns Hopkins, sister, Wenoa Burns, and nephew Richard Loel Burns.
Mrs. Lawson is survived by her sister and brother in law, Charlsie and James Wheeler, niece Jamie and husband Don Parmer, nephew Charles and wife Darlie Wheeler, niece Laura and husband Tommy Harris, niece Susan and husband Don Bush and her aunt, Vivian Jerigan. Also surviving her are 10 great nieces and nephews and 16 great great nieces and nephews. Since she had none of her own. Mrs. Lawson loved her nieces and nephews as her children and grandchildren. She was dearly loved by all.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Hospice for all their care and concern.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 am on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Dean Bullock officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Adams, Bo Barbee, Gilbert Rains, Rex Rains, Benny Russell, and Jimmy Scates. Interment will follow at Mt. Herman Cemetery in Shelby County. Visitation will begin at 2 pm Friday, November 25, 2005 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Dale Cooper age 80, of Port Neches passed away Saturday, November 26, 2005 at his residence. He was born January 26, 1925 in Shelby County and had been a Mid County resident since 1944. He retired as a supervisor for Texaco after some 36 years of service. He served many years as a machinist when Texaco was know as Neches Butane. Mr. Cooper was a member of the First Baptist Church of Port Neches and was also a member of the Shelby County Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Bernice Cooper of Port Neches, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, and a host of wonderful friends and neighbors.
