Billy Charles Reeves, 71, of Garrison passed away Saturday, June 30, 2007 at a Lufkin hospital. He was born August 21, 1935 in Rusk County, Texas to Don Reeves and Percy Moore Reeves. Mr. Reeves had spent most of his life in Garrison, but had lived the last few years in Lufkin.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Caledonia Cemetery in Rusk County, Texas with Bro. Travis Lunsford officiating. Visitation will be held at the cemetery from 1:30 pm until service time.

Mary Graziano Green, 84, of San Augustine, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007 at her home. She was born August 21, 1922 in Girard, Ohio to Angelo Graziano and Jenneria Casale Graziano. Ms. Green attended Saint Augustine Catholic Church in San Augustine and volunteered at Care & Share in San Augustine.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Father Mike Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Visitation will be begin at 12:00 pm and continue until service time at 1:00 pm.

Elmer Vernon Moore, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather passed from the loving arms of his wife into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 27, 2007. He left this world quietly at his home after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born June 23, 1920 in Wheeler, Texas to Ruth Emieline (Marselus) Moore and Vernon Henry Moore. He attended both Texas Tech and Centenary College. He proudly served with the U.S. Army in the European theater in WWII where he earned a campaign medal with a Bronze Star. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of both the American Legion and the 40&8. He was employed as an accountant with the Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation and retired after 32 years of outstanding service. After his retirement he enjoyed both domestic and international travel and was a member of the Airstream Travel Club. He was a member of St. Matthais Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry, sang in the choir and served on numerous boards and committees.

In his life his priorities were service to his Lord Jesus Christ, his family and then finally himself. He married his lifetime soul mate Saravivis, on March 15, 1941. Together they enjoyed over 66 years of marriage and shared a loving and caring relationship like none other. He loved his family and was always the happiest when he had them all together at family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Saravivis Wilkinson Moore; daughter Sylvia Georgene Moore Cox and husband Arthur Cox, Jr.; daughter Charmaine Ruth Moore Cox; son Elmer Vernon Moore, Jr. and wife Darla Gayle Lilley Moore; daughter Kathleen Ann Moore Cox and husband Ronald Dale Cox; daughter Vivis Yvette Moore Smith and her husband Frank Cary Smith; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

A private memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2007. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to local hospice organizations or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

James Clayton “Cooney” Jordan, also affectionately known as “Bro”, 57, of Waskom, went to be with his heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 after a lengthy illness. James was born March 9, 1950 in Center, Texas to Jewel Jordan and Rosa Mae Willoughby Jordan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Rev. Wayne McKay and Chaplain Aaron Bequette officiating. Interment will follow at Sardis Cemetery in Shelby County. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, June 29, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.

Preston LaVon Moore, age 82, of Antlers, OK, passed away June 22, 2007 in Hugo OK. Preston was born June 27, 1924 in Nacogdoches County, Tx., the son of Monroe and Myrtle (Cantrell) Moore. He had lived in Rattan since 1987. After serving in the Navy, then the Coast Guard, Preston worked as a policeman, later as a cosmetologist, then as a Security Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Leon and O'Neal and 3 sisters Mae, Odessa and Roseling.

Surviving relatives: He leaves behind his wife Dorothy Moore of Antlers, 2 daughters, Elaine Moore of Halton City, Tx. , and Sherry Rust of Hurst, Tx., 1 brother, Grady Moore of Hermitage, Ark., 2 grandsons; Landon and Kelien Rust, along with many nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends and acquaintances.

Visitation: the family will receive friends Tuesday June 26, 2007 from 6 PM - & PM in the funeral home in Hugo, OK. Graveside services in Center on June 27, 2007 at 2 PM at Mount Olive Cemetery with David J. Smith officiating. Under the direction of Miller and Miller Funeral Home, OK.

Christa Sims/Bell, infant daughter of Christfer Bell and Tammy Sims passed away Friday, June 22, 2007 at Shelby Regional Medical Center Hospital. She was born June 22, 2007.

Jane Northrop, 64, of Houston, passed away Tuesday June 19, 2007 in Houston.

Graveside services will be Wednesday June 27, 2007 at Patroon Cemetery in Shelbyville with Fred Bray officiating.

She was born November 5, 1942 to Nelson and Mildred (Jamison) Palmer. She worked as an office manger for Pure Energy and she also sold real estate.

She is preceded in death by her father Nelson Palmer.

O.L. Witherspoon, 92, of Nacogdoches, formerly of Center, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2007 at a Nacogdoches nursing home. He was born July 4, 1914 in Center to Oscar Leon Witherspoon and Elma Ann Wilson Witherspoon. Mr. Witherspoon grew up and attended school in Cleveland, Texas. He attended Baylor University, where he majored in business and was a member of the Baylor band. Mr. Witherspoon married Jean Nix in Center on February 29, 1936. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Center. He enjoyed going to his farm, raising cattle and golf when he was young. During the last few years of his life, he enjoyed going to Waco to see his Baylor Bears play football and also enjoyed the Baylor band marching at halftime.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center with Bro. Gordon Vaughn officiating.

Johnny Wayne Oliver, 55, of Center passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at Shelby Regional Medical Center. He was born November 10, 1951 in Shelby County, Texas to Austin Willis Oliver and Hazel Buckner Oliver. Johnny was officially known as the “Green Man” for selling produce. He was a member of Spann’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Johnny loved fishing, farming and his dogs.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, June 22, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Carroll Jones officiating. Gertrud Phillips, 93, of Center passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at her residence. She was born April 17, 1914 in Hamburg, Germany to Paul Buguhan and Anna Timm Buguhan. Mrs. Phillips had been a resident of Center for the past twenty-six years.

At her request, Mrs Phillips will be cremated.

Survivors include: Niee, Joan Crawford and husband Jay of Lexington, Virginia.

He was born June 6, 1919 to John and Lucretia (Payne) Gafford. He was a member of First Baptist Church. For many years he worked for Lunsford Buick here in Center as an auto mechanic. He also worked and had an auto repair shop of his own.

William "Vestus" Smith, 90, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007, at Nacogdoches Medical Center Hospital. Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 10 AM at Ramah Cemetery in Tenaha with Dock Watson and Bro. Keith Keele officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 19, 2007 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born September 9, 1916 to Joe and Ola Norman Smith. He served in the US Army 7th Mounted Calvary during WWII. He owned and operated a service station in Tenaha for many years. He also worked for the Texas Highway Department where he later retired. He was a member of Ramah Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by parents, Joe and Ola Norman Smith, infant daughter and sister Limmie Ola Anderson.

Wilma Woolley, 86, passed away Friday June 15, 2007 in Austin, TX.

Graveside Service will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday June 19, 2007 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Visitation will be Tuesday June 19, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

She was born November 17, 1930 to Clarence and Verdry (Forsythe) Westmoreland. She was a high school teacher for 35 years where she mostly taught Home Economics for the Center ISD. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was an avid Bridge player and she was a member of the First United Methodist Church here in Center.

She is preceded in death by her husband Roy Rockwell Woolley.

Rickey Glynn Jones, 49, of Center passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007 at a Tyler hospital. He was born June 28, 1957 in Center to William Levell Jones and Betty Vaughn Jones. Mr. Jones was of the Baptist faith.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Myrtle Springs Cemetery in San Augustine County with Bro. Edward McRae and Bro. Lamar Rash officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, June 8, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.

Mrs. Treat, died Thursday, June 7, in Center. She was born November 6, 1959 in Shreveport, LA. to Robert Quincy and Lessie Lenora Barnett Adams. She was raised in rural galloway and attended Logansport High School. Vicky marride Judd Treat and made a loving home for her family. She loved to spend time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Robbie Diane Hagans.

Among Mrs. Treat’s survivors are her husband, Judd Treat, of Joaquin, her parents, Robert and Lessie “Teet” Adams, of Galloway, one son, Paul Douglas “Trey” Kinman, III, of Carthage, one daughter, Golda Kinman Sowders, of Galloway, and one sister, Laurie Cordova, of Galloway. Services will be Friday, June 8, 2007 at 2 PM at Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Chapel in Logansport, Louisiana. Officiating will be Rev. Billy Freeman and buiral will be at Brookland Cemetery, Haslam, Texas.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, Joaquin, Texas. Family will receive friends from 4 PM till 9 PM, Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Logansport.

Ercy Risinger, 82, of the Dunnigan Community of Shelby County, Texas passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at a Shreveport hospital. She was born July 9, 1924 in San Augustine to James Sowell and Allie Mae Wall Sowell. Ms. Risinger was a member of the Dunnigan Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 8, 2007 at Dunnigan Baptist Church in Shelby County with Rev. Calvin Hancock and Rev. Billy Windham officiating. Mr. D. L. White - Community Funeral Home of Center announces services for 79 year old, Mr. D. L. White, of the East Liberty Community. Services are tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 11 o’clock at Community Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Thompson Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Among Mr. White’s survivors are three brothers, Augusta White, of California, Donnie E. White, of San Augustine, and Lorinza White, of Alabama, and two sisters, Roena White, of Wichita Falls, and Verna Smith, of Dallas.


Mrs. Bessie B. Garrett - Community Funeral Home of Timpson announces services for 86 year old, Mrs. Bessie B. Garrett, of Nacogdoches. Services are Saturday afternoon at one o’clock at Bryant Temple Church of God in Christ. Interment will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Among Mrs. Garrett’s survivors are three daughters, Bessie M. Hooper, of Nacogdoches, Bertha Kirk Patrick, of Carlton, and Mary Simon, of Nacogdoches, six sons, Thora Lee Hooper, of Washington, Ed Hooper, of Dallas, Milton Hooper, of Dallas, Willie Hooper, of Mexico, Benford Hooper, of Dallas, and Stanley Hooper, of Nacogdoches, and three sisters, Rosie Jean Holland, of Nacogdoches, Cora Lee Bryant, of Garrison, and Essie Lee Bryant, of Garrison.

James Russell Moore, 55, of Joaquin, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007, at his home. He was born August 17, 1951 in Arp to Silas Rueben Moore and Vera May Moore. Mr. Moore was a self-employed welder.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at Joaquin First Baptist Church Cemetery in Joaquin with Brother Jody Hooper officiating.

Thomas Lee "Buster" McMahon, 73, of Tenaha, passed Monday, June 4, 2007 at a Shreveport hospital. He was born November 6, 1933 in Center to Luther McMahon and Nela Brittain McMahon. Mr. McMahon was member of Lone Cedar Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the US Air Force.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Rev. Russ Atwood and Rev. Keith Keele officiating. Interment will follow at Ramah Cemetery in Tenaha.
