Ralph Thrift , age 75, of Timpson, Texas, services will be at 10 AM, Monday, June 02, 2008 in Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson, with Bro. Kerry Green officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson. Mr. Thrift passed away May 30, 2008 in Timpson.

Born in Herberville, Georgia on March 15, 1933, Ralph Thrift was the son of the late Hollie Dean and Claudia (Mercer) Thrift. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a Methodist. Ralph was a licensed real estate broker in Houston and the East Texas area for 40 years. He was currently owner of Double TT Realty in Timpson. During his years in Timpson he had been a member of the Timpson Lion's Club, Chamber of Commerce and Pineywoods Board of Realtors.

Survivors include son Michael Thrift, of Timpson, daughter, Claudia ANn Thrift of Humble, Texas, granddaughter, Ashley Dawn Thrift of Timpson, special friend, Millie Thrift of Baton Rouge, La., two brothers, John and Jimmy Thrift of Hoboken, Ga. and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his brother, Millard Thrift.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 01, 2008 From 5-7 PM at Taylor Funeral Home.

David W. Green, 72, of Center, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008 at a Center nursing home. He was born July 31, 1935 in Houston to Eddie W. Green and Anita Faye Pulley Green. Mr. Green served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict of was of the Assembly of God Faith.

Per Mr. Green’s wishes, his body was donated to LSU Health Sciences Center.

Andy Chance, 43, of Dallas, passed away Friday, May 30, 2008 at his home. He was born October 5, 1964 in Orange to Sam Alfred and Carole Ann Parker Chance. He was the 1983 Valedictorian of his graduating class at Brady High School, where he was also a National Merit Scholar. Andy received his Bachelor’s Degree from Baylor, and his Law Degree from Baylor Law School. He was an attorney for Center ISD and Shelbyville ISD.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Watson & Sons Chapel in Center, with Rev. Carl Smith & Rev. Michael Hale officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Tommy Morrison, 79, of Center, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008 at a local nursing home. He was born August 17, 1928 in Center to Tommy Eugene Morrison and Amanda Haley Morrison. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1947. In 1953 he started the Little League in Center, along with friends Bob Fairchild and Bob Clifford. Tommy was an avid cattle raiser and timber grower, and owner of Morrison Insurance Agency for over 50 years. He was a Charter Member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, the Gateway to Texas Chapter. Tommy was on the Board of Directors at Farmers State Bank and was a pass president of the Center Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Center Noon Lions Club, with over 55 years of perfect attendance. Tommy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Center.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM, Friday, May 30, 2008 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Center with Bro. Russ Atwood and Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Center.

Mrs. Mears was born on May 16, 1915, in Center, Texas to Charles Wesley and Lottie Arzilla Adams Johnson. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She is survived by her sons, Wesley L. "Bo" Coffman of Leesville, La., and James E. Mears of Huntsville, Texas; daughters, Lottie Collins of Groveton, Texas, Panzy Bush of Lanesville, Texas, and Tiny Lange of Wilmer, Texas. 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.


Karen Lee (Green) Hight, age 39, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008.

She was born Nov. 28, 1968, in Nacogdoches County, Texas, and had been a longtime resident of the San Augustine area.

Survivors: daughter, Regina Martinez and husband Lupe of Tenaha, Texas; sons, John Michael Green and Brandon Green, both of Broaddus, Texas; parents, John Earl and Addie (Walton) Green of San Augustine, Texas; a brother, Robert Earl Green of Tenaha, Texas; a sister, Sheila Gay Williams of San Augustine, Texas; and nieces and nephews.

Ruth Lowe Lee, 94, of Humble, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008. She was born February 4, 1914 in Laneville, Texas to James Oscar Lowe and Beulah Mae Arrant Lowe. Prior to living in Humble the last 20 years, Ms. Lee was a resident of Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Center, where she was a longtime member of the Adult & Senior Choir and Amoma Sunday School Class.

Kathy Anders, age 64, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008. Ms. Anders was born Jan. 9, 1944, in San Augustine County, Texas, as a daughter of the late Earl and Mary Alice (Harper) Anders. She was a beautician and a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors: daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Lance Norvell of Nacogdoches, Texas, Krissy and Jim Dill of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Selena Dancer of Princeton, Texas; sister, Paula McGlothin and husband Bruce of Bridge City, Texas; a grandchild, Morgan Dill; and step-grandchildren, Josh Dill, Keith Dill, and Cameron Dill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mary Anders, and two brothers, Jerry Anders and Larry Anders.

Born May 29, 1914, in Shelby County, Texas, she was the daughter of James Richardson and Mallie Ruth (Hughes) Powdrill. She was a member of Arcadia Church of Christ and spent her life caring for her family and enjoying her friends.

Survivors include son, Steve Earl Franks and wife Betty of Timpson; daughters Evangeline Williams of Baytown and Mary Magness and husband Billy of Timpson; daughter-in-law Joyce Franks of Houston; brother Verlon Powdrill of Porter, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Adelle Franks was preceded in death by husband Hoy Franks, son Richard Franks, grandson Steven Franks, granddaughter Annette Franks, daughter-in-law Waidean Franks, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.

Y.W. “Bill” Rogers, Jr., 76, of Center, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in a Shreveport hospital. He was born February 28, 1932 in Center to Dr. Y.W. “Hap” Rogers, Sr. and Ercyle Crawford Rogers. Mr. Rogers was a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. He was also a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Center. He served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1957. Mr. Rogers received a Bachelor’s Degree from Baylor in 1953, and a Master’s Degree in 1958.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. George Edward Cox, age 81, of Timpson, Texas passed away May 21, 2008 in East Texas Medical Center, Carthage, Texas. Graveside service will be Friday, May 23, 2008, at 11:00 AM, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson. Officiating will be Bishop LaRell Nielson.

Mr. Cox was born in Timpson on December 5, 1926, he was the son of the late Jesse Morgan and Daisy Jerusha (Smith) Cox. He was a graduate of Timpson High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. George Edward Cox was a self employed dairy farmer and a member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include sisters, Beverly Cranford and husband Dick of Carthage, Texas and Mary Lynn Harris and husband Wilfred of Timpson and brother, Thomas Joe Cox and wife Gaynell of Houston, Texas. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. William “Bill” Fischer, Jr. passed from this life on May 9, 2008, at his home in Santa Fe.

Born April 3, 1925 in San Antonio, Mr. Fischer had been a resident of Galveston County since 1927. He left high school without graduating to serve in the Navy during WWII on the troop carrier Mt. Vernon from 1942 – 1946, but was awarded an honorary High School diploma in 2002 when Senator Kyle Janick recognized area high school veterans for their similar service to the nation. He had been employed as a pilot and mechanic by John Mecom Oil for 20 years and as an aircraft mechanic by Martin Aircraft Aviation for another 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mae Fischer, Sr. of Galveston; his sister, Louise Thorne of Ridgecrest, CA; his brother, Colonel Frank O. Fischer of Redmond, WA; and a son, William Craig Fischer of Santa Fe. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara; brothers Carl Fischer, Sr. of Houston and Major Chester A. Fischer of Ormond, FL; daughter, Janet Hoye Fischer of Anchorage, AK; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Ginger Fischer of Cleburne, TX; son, Jason Fischer, of Cordova, AK; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bain and husband David of Center, Connie Lucas of Center and Bonnie Bagwell of Burleson, brother-in-law, Fred "Botchy" Baugh of Center, aunt, Mattie Frank Wyatt of Center and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 12, 2008, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Overton of Houston officiating. Mr. Fischer will be interred at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock with a private service.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Fischer, Jason Fischer, James Fischer, Carl Fischer, Jr., Pete Pytrysson, Rogers Yarborough, Jay Coffman, and Stan Ballard. Honorary bearers will be Kerry Lucas, David Bain, and Ron Phillips.

Mr. Harold Kenneth Bogue Sr., 82, of Garrison, Texas, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Nacogdoches Medical Center, Nacogdoches, Texas. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Harold was born in Timpson, Texas on April 1, 1926, the son of the late Joseph Buell and Jimmie Vera (Corley) Bogue. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a member of First Baptist Church, Garrison and was a 30 year Mason. Harold previously served as Constable and Justice of the Peace for Nacogdoches County.

Survivors include son Ken Bogue and wife Mary of Grapeland, Texas, stepson Kenneth Sims and wife Lou of Greenwood, La., stepdaughter Gale Smith and special friend Lynn Brown of Nacogdoches, 2 grandchildren, Erik Bogue and wife Ericka and Heather Bogue, 4 stepgrandchildren, Chase and Jared Sims, Tyler Smithe and Slade Skyes, 2 great grandchildren, Jordan and Ashtyn Bogue and 3 step greatgrandchildren, Cameron, Sebastian and Benny. Harold is also survived by sisters Shirley Buechner and husband Ray of Rio Rancho, NM., and Janice Ballard of San Augustine, Texas, first wife Doris Bogue of Garrison, second wife, Emogene Bogue of Garrison and numerous nieces and nephews. He was born November 27, 1940 to Roy L. and Myrtle Ruth (Lockmiller) Stroope. He worked as a union electrician and he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local #20 for 35 years. He was of the Catholic Faith.

Staff Sergeant Kevin Casey Roberts, age 25 of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky was killed in the Sabari district of Afghanistan on May 7, 2008. His mission was to serve his country which he did proudly for six and a half years as a soldier with the 101st Airborne Division. He was assigned to Delta Company, 2nd Battalion 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team. The events of September 11, 2001 influenced SSG Roberts' determination to defend the United States. His love of duty and love of country were undeniable. Staff Sergeant Roberts was all military, he earned the respect of officers, fellow NCOs and soldiers alike. During his service, Staff Sergeant Roberts was awarded numerous medals and ribbons. Among them are the CIB, EIB and the Army Achievement Medal, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

Casey was born on May 27, 1982 in Farmington, New Mexico. He graduated from Farmington High School in 2000. Casey joined the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department and served until enlisting in the United States Army in 2001.

SSG Roberts strove to complete numerous goals during his military career. Recently he applied for the Warrant Office program. As Casey put it, "Flying has been a dream of mine since I was a little boy. My father took me along in his ultra light aircraft and told me stories about flying and even let me pilot. I grew to love flying and was fascinated by it."

The brightest lights in SSG Roberts life were his wife Donnice, daughter Caehlen and son Keeghan.

He was preceded in death by Grandparents Thurman and Emma Roberts and Jerry and Amanda Sisson. He is survived by his parents Milton C. and Gerri Sue Roberts of Farmington NM, a brother SPC Curby R. Roberts of FT Hood, TX and his children, a brother Jerry E. Roberts of Farmington, NM. Father and mother in-law Pat and Brenda Yates of Lebanon, Ohio. Grandparents Bob and Delsia Powell of Shelbyville, TX and Don and Becca Yates of New Braunfels, TX. Brother in-law Petty Officer 3rd Class Codey P. Yates, his wife and child, and numerous family members, friends and his Brothers in Arms.

Staff Sergeant Roberts will be buried with full military honors. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 15th from 4-8PM at Mangum Funeral Home, 420 San Augustine Street, Center, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 16th at 2PM at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at West Hamilton Cemetery. A memorial for SSG Roberts will be held on Friday, May 23rd at 11 AM. The full military honors memorial will be held at First Baptist Church, 121 North Auburn Street in Farmington, New Mexico.

Mildred Parrish Lindsey- Funeral services for Mildred Parrish Lindsey will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 1:30 P.M. at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel in Shreveport, LA. Burial will be at Brookland Cemetery in Haslam, TX.

Mrs. Lindsey, 92, died May 10,2008, in Shreveport. She was born July 06, 1915, in Neame, LA, the daughter of Maude Grisham Parrish and Thomas Parrish. She graduated from Logansport High School in 1932 and was a member of Haslam Baptist Church. Mrs. Lindsey was Postmistress in Haslam and worked at the Joaquin Post Office for many years. She was a devoted mother and wonderful grandmother, who will be greatly missed.

Marye McSwain Danley, 70, of Center, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Shelby Regional Medical Center. She was born September 13, 1937 in Shelby County to James Roscoe McSwain and Evie Lee Dean McSwain. Marye attended the Red Hat Society and was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Historical Society. She loved genealogy and travel and attended Salem Missionary Baptist Church.

Michael was born in Houston, Texas on August 19, 1940 the son of the late Samuel Tanksley and Cleva Aileen (Tyer) Cantrell. He was a graduate of Timpson High School and was an auto mechanic.

Survivors include sons Doye W. Cantrell and wife Robin of Timpson and Duane Smith and wife Mindy of Marshall; daughter Theresa Brown of Longview; brother Daniel A. Cantrell and wife Janice of Matagorda, TX; 7 grandchildren: Tiffany Newman and husband Cody, Layne Cantrell, Whitley Cantrell, Jessica Brown, Kole Smith, Blake Smith, and Kory Smith; 3 great grandchildren: Hunter, Fisher, and Remington Newman.

Mike was preceded in death by parents Samuel T. and Cleva A. (Tyer) Cantrell, sister Sammie Jean Rushing, and daughter Leisa L. Cantrell.

Billy Hyde, age 42, of Huxley, Texas. died in a truck accident early Wednesday morning on State Hwy 139.
Mr. Hyde was tranferred to Hattiesburg, Mississippi. No local service is planned at this time.


Stephen Lee Towns, age 58, of Timpson, Texas passed away May 5, 2008 in Timpson. Graveside services will be 11 A.M., Thursday, May 8, 2008 at New Prospect Cemetery, Timpson, with Bro. Douglas McDonald officiating.

Stephen Lee Towns was born in the Buena Vista Community near Timpson, Texas on May 30, 1949, to parents Robert Lee "Bob" and Lois Alcine (Hairston) Towns. He was a graduate of Timpson High School and was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Danyelle was born December 10, 1989, in Nacogdoches, Texas to Ronald and Jody Smith. She moved with her family to Wylie, Texas and later to Caddo Mills, Texas, where she attended Bland ISD, excelling in music and winning many vocal awards. She was a member of the Girl Scouts where she aspired to be a good role model for younger girls. She had many friends that she left behind when she moved back to Nacogdoches last year. She recently attended Martinsville ISD and was employed with Subway in Center, Texas. Danyelle was the type of person everyone loved and made many new friends in the short time in Nacogdoches. She was the one person that everyone could count on for whatever reason. Danyelle was loved by all her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her parents, Ronald and Jody Smith of Nacogdoches, Texas; sisters, Jennifer Myers of Estherwood, LA; Maranda Smith of Estherwood, LA, and Sarah Smith of Nacogdoches, TX; grandmother, Linda Smith of Nacogdoches, TX; grandparents, Jay and Judy Lindell of Van Alstyne, Texas.
