M.C. “Joe” Snider, 81, of Huxley, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Pine Grove Nursing Home.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Center with Father Jose Luis officiating. Burial will follow at Strong Cemetery in Huxley. Visitation will be Monday, February 1, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home. A Rosary Service will immediately follow in the Chapel.

He was born August 6, 1928 to M.T. and Ophelia (Vaughn) Snider in Huxley. He served our country as a Sergeant First Class in the army from 1948 to 1959 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for RCA Corporation along with NASA for many years, traveling and living in various places such as Alaska, Italy, Germany and Virginia. He and his family returned to Texas in 1977 where he worked at Olds Supermart. After “retiring”, he began working at Wal-Mart in Center where he enjoyed seeing and visiting many friends and acquaintances. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Patricia “Pat” Snider, Parents, M.T. and Ophelia Snider, Sister, Bernice Snider, Brother, Eugene Snider and Son-in-law, Richard Freeman of Raleigh, NC.

Gertie Amburn Leach, 75, of Center, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010.

She was born August 21, 1934 to Rube and Lena (Crawford) Amburn. She worked as a USDA Poultry Inspector for 40 years and she was a member of Neuville Baptist Church.

Hugh Smith, 79 of Center, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Shelby Regional Medical Center.

He was born June 11, 1930 to Bernice and Inez (Newsom) Smith. He graduated from Franklin High School in Franklin, Texas. He was a chemist for Armco in Houston for 30 years. He served in the US Navy for 4 years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Centerville.

Funeral services for Bobbie Lynn (Neill) Carlton, 57, of Timpson, TX, will be held at 1:00 PM,
Monday, February 1, 2010, at Stockman Community Church, Timpson, TX, with Rev. Cliff 
Hughes and Rev. James Bradley officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Timpson.
Ms. Carlton passed away January 27, 2010, in Nacogdoches, TX.

Born January 20, 1953, in Center, TX, Bobbie Lynn Carlton was the daughter of the late James Ray “Goat” Neill and Leoma (Powers) Neill. She was a graduate of Timpson High School and was the 
owner of Lil Goat’s One Stop store in the Stockman Community of Shelby County. She was also a 
member of ABBA.

Survivors include son Richard Hattaway of Timpson; mother Leoma Neill of Timpson; brother 
Jimmy Hopkins and wife Pam of Timpson; and numerous other relatives and friends. Bobbie was
preceded in death by her father James Ray “Goat” Neill.

Lewis Henry Bussey, Jr, 54 of Timpson, departed this life on January 21, 2010 at the East Texas Medical center in Tyler, Texas. Lewis was born September 15, 1955 in Center, Texas to the parentage of Lewis and Mavet Bussey. He joined the Wallace Chapel Baptist Church in Timpson, Texas at an early age. He was a graduate of Timpson High School and was employed in the Paint and Body business for many years.

Services were held Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Wallace Chapel Baptist Church, Timpson, Texas with Minister Cassandra Bering officiating, Minister James Mosley as Master of Ceremony, and Rev. Vertis Norman, Pastor. Interment was a Antioch Cemetery, Timpson, Texas.

He was preceeded in death by his mother and father and childre, Ranada, Lanetria, Alexander, Lakeitha, and Jasmine.

He leaves to mourn;

Mattie Zelma Bearden, daughter of the late Virgil and Ida (Crawford) Ramsey, was born on November 11, 1916 in Panola County, Texas and passed away on January 26, 2010 at her residence in Springfield, Missouri following a short illness. She was 93 years of age.

Zelma grew up in the Timpson, Texas area and attended school in Carlisle, Texas. She was united in marriage to Marvin James Bearden on March 10, 1932 in Bethany, Louisiana. One son was born to this union. They made their home in Texas for many years and moved to the Mtn. Grove, Missouri area late in the year 2000 to be near their son, Ramsey and his family. Mr. Bearden passed away on April 29, 2001.

Zelma moved to Springfield, Missouri following the passing of her son, Ramsey, who passed away on May 1, 2004.

In her spare time, Zelma enjoyed bird watching, painting, doing genealogy, and collecting knick- knacks. She liked all kinds of animals and she also loved to travel. She was a friend to all and enjoyed living life to its fullest.

She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor. She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them and visiting with those around her.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending as long as her health permitted.

Besides her parents, husband and son, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Lamar Ramsey and Allen Ramsey; and by a sister-in-law: Lilla Frances Ramsey.

She is survived by two grandchildren: Brad Bearden and his wife, Brittany, of Neosho, Missouri, and Ms. Amy M. Bearden of Springfield, Missouri; two great-grandchildren: Spencer Bearden and Ainsley Bearden; one brother: Clifford A. Ramsey of Abilene, Texas; a sister-in-law: Mabel Ramsey of Tyler, Texas; and other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.

Bessie Mae Wiggins, 83, of Center, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010 in Victoria. She was born October 16, 1926 in Shelby County to George W. Wilburn and Lena Eddins Wilburn. Ms. Wiggins was a member of the First Baptist Church in Center.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. George Raymond “Jake” Bowden, age 81, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010. He was born in Tenaha, Texas on October 25, 1928 to Willie Eugene and Mabel Cornella Bowden who preceded him in death along with his wife, Dub Hair-Bowden; and brothers, King Bowden and Jimmy Bowden. He served our country from 1945 to 1949 in the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his daughters, Lea Goodrum, Gayle Lee, Deborah Connors; son, Terry Bowden; brother, James Bowden; grandchildren, Heather, Brandy, Wendy, Katy, Amanda, Jake, Coty; great-grandchildren, Maison, Tate, Hailey, Parks, Cason, River, Kember, Graham, Justice, and Scout; his special friends, Vonda, Josh and Ada and the ladies at Ada’s house; numerous nieces, nephews and other cherished family members and treasured friends beyond measure.

Albert Earl Rushing, 65, of Center, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at a Tyler hospital. He was born October 21, 1944 in San Augustine to Albert Rushing and Dura Mae Wheeler. Mr. Rushing served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam war were he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He later served in the national guard for a number of years. Mr. Rushing was of the Baptist faith.

Leslie Lorenzo Driver 43, of Center, TX, passed away January 23, 2010 in Nacogdoches, Texas. Services will be held Saturday January 30, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Sid Roberts Funeral Home. 

Mr. Driver was born October 17, 1966 to The late Mr. Jimmy and Mrs. Irene Driver. He was the sixth of eight children. He received his formal education in the Nacogdoches Independent School District, where he was an active member of the football and baseball team. He was employed by Tyson Foods Inc. where he worked as a truck driver. 

Mr. Driver is survived by his mother, Irene Driver of Nacogdoches, TX, 4 Children, 2 Grandchildren, 7 siblings, 8 nephews and 9 nieces.

Deloris Hughes, 76, of Center, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Nacogdoches Medical Center. She was born May 18, 1933 in Shelby County to Willis Livingston and Lois Ford Livingston. Mrs. Hughes was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Gordon Vaughn and Bro. Henry Hughes officiating. Mrs. Patricia “Pat” Sims was born October 7, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas to the marriage of Harry and Helen Ross Sanders. Pat graduated from Leverette’s Chapel High School with the class of 1950. She met M.R. “Doc” Sims and was married December 22, 1950 celebrating 59 years of marriage. Mrs. Sims was a homemaker who loved playing the piano, shopping and enjoyed helping others. She was a longtime member of the Northside Christian Center. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Helen.

Gilbert Dale Richardson, age 72 of Carthage, Texas, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at his home in Carthage.

A mass of Christian burial for Mr. Gilbert Dale Richardson will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Groves, TX with Father Don Golasinski officiating. Entombment will follow with military honors in Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches.The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. The family will also receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur.

Gilbert Dale Richardson was born on Sept. 6, 1937, in Port Arthur to Carroll Able and Isabelle Picou Richardson. Gilbert graduated from Port Neches High School with the class of 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-1961. Gilbert married Patricia Roberts on Oct. 11, 1958, in Groves. He enjoyed traveling with dulcimer friends, hunting, photography, and cooking. Gilbert worked as a machinist for the Fina Refinery in Port Arthur, retiring after 35 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Groves. He moved to Carthage in 2003, and was a member of the St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marion Andrews.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Pat Richardson of Carthage; three children, Dean Richardson of Mont Belvieu, Cindy Stone and husband Mark of Joaquin, and Jeff Richardson of Richardson; four grandchildren, Natalie Eagleson, Valerie Cormier, Nathan Stone, and Erin Stone; one great-grandson, Tyler Cormier; three brothers, Roland Richardson and wife Genny, Bill Richardson and wife Barbara, Carlos Richardson and wife Linda; one sister, Llewellyn McBride and husband Lindy; sisters-in-law, Sue Russell and Becky Gaspard; and brother-in-law, Tommy Roberts.

William Morton, 67, of Huxley formerly of Baytown, passed away Friday, January 15, 2010 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 11, 1941 in Kennewick, Washington to Earl and Lucille (Jensen) Morton. He worked as a chemical operator for Lubrizol Corp. for 30 years and he served in the US Army.

Fred Wilburn Spurlock, 90, of Paxton, passed away Monday, January 4, 2010, at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. He was born October 19, 1919 in the Paxton Community of Shelby County, Texas to William M. Spurlock and Mary Jane May Spurlock. He served in the US Army from 1942 – 1946. Mr. Spurlock was on the Tenaha ISD School Board for 13 years, and on the Paxton Water Supply Board from 1966 – 2005. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Church of Christ in Tenaha.

J. R. Hudson, 67, of Tenaha, passed away Friday, January 1, 2010, at Shelby Regional Medical Center. He was born March 20, 1942 in Carthage to James Odes Hudson and Rachel Pitts Hudson. Mr. Hudson was a member of Ramah Missionary Baptist Church in Tenaha.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday, January 4, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Ramah Cemetery in Tenaha with Mr. Wayne Wimberly officiating.

He is survived by:

Daughter, Lisa K. Castilleja and husband Charlie of Austin

Brother, Joe Hudson of Carthage

Sister, Peggy Avery of Overton

Lillian Brown McSwain, 87, of Center passed away Friday, January 01, 2010 at Twin Lakes Nursing Home in San Augustine, Texas.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Williams and Bro. Aubie McSwain officiating. Burial will follow at Old Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, January 4, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

She was born July 2, 1922 to James Dewey and Eva Mae (Thacker) Brown. She was a lifelong member of Old Salem Missionary Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, James and Eva Brown, Infant Son, Ronnie Clark McSwain and Brother, J.D. Brown.
