Nancy Peterson, 65, of Tunica, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

Graveside will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 3, 2010 at Spann’s Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Kenneth McCauley officiating. Visitation will be Friday, July 2, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

She was born March 1, 1945 in Shelby County to Buck E. and Nancy E. (Baggett) Spann. She had lots of friends who loved her and she never meet a stranger. She was a patient at Fredsenius Medical Care Dialysis Clinic in Tunica, Mississippi.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, Buck and Nancy Spann and Sister, Roby E. Roberts.

Carlie Lowe, 70, of Center, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010 at her home. She was born August 9, 1939 in Spencer Bridge, Kentucky to Sam Reece and Lou Emma Burton Reece. Ms. Lowe was a member of Center Bible Fellowship Church.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Ron Luman and Bro. Don Windham officiating. James R. Dickerson, 74, of Joaquin, passed away Monday, June 28, 2010 at a Shreveport hospital. He was born March 15, 1936 in Shelby County to Ray A. Dickerson, Sr. and Era Dell Glaze Dickerson. Mr. Dickerson was a Deacon at Fellowship Baptist Church in Joaquin. He was also a member of Joaquin Masonic Lodge #856.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm, Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Fodge and Bro. Rodger Cole officiating. Memorial Services for Mr. M. R. “Doc” Sims, 80 of Beckville, Texas will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at the Northside Christian Center with Rev. Aaron Bequette and Rev. Billy Shoffner officiating. Burial will take place that morning at 9:30 a.m. in the Sardis Cemetery in Shelby County, Texas under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Tuesday, June 29, 2010 from 6–8:00 p.m. at the Northside Christian Center. Mr. Sims died Sunday, June 27, 2010 in Longview, Texas.

Mr. Merrell Rogers “Doc” Sims was born February 21, 1930 in Shelby County, Texas. He was the youngest of twelve children born to the marriage of Jesse James and Cynthia Byrd Sims. Doc attended rural Shelby County schools. He married Mrs. Patricia Gwendolyn Sanders on December 22, 1950 and celebrated 59 years of marriage until she preceded him in death on January, 24, 2010. As a lover of cattle and everything outdoors, Mr. Sims made his living as a Farmer, owning the 4S Farm. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time on the Sabine River bottom. He found joy in sharing the Gospel through his testimony and was a proud member of the Northside Christian Center. Mr. Sims is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and five sisters.

Mr. Sims is survived by his son, Larry Sims and wife Connie of Union Grove; daughter, Karen Norman and husband, David of Garrison; grandchildren, Elizabeth Sims, Kailee Densman, Kristen Densman; Special niece, Helen Rodgers and husband Billy of Center numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Serving as pallbearers are George Van DeCarr, Ray Conaster, Bobby Crow, Bobby Wiggins, Doss Miller, Mickey Browning and Clayton Eubanks.

The family request memorial be made to the Northside Christian Center.

Graveside service for Margie Louise Youngblood, 80, of Fort Worth, TX, will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Tennessee Cemetery, Timpson, with Rev. Gene Krieg officating. Mrs. Youngblood passed away June 26, 2010, in Fort Worth.

Margie Louise Youngblood was born November 08, 1929, in De Berry, TX. She was married to Jack R.
Youngblood, who preceded her in death on May 7, 1994. She was a nurse from 1963 until her
retirement in 1985. Mrs. Youngblood was a member of Kings Highway Baptist Church in Fort Worth.

Survivors include 2 daughters: Susan Watkins of Fort Worth and Mary Berg of Denver, Colorado;
5 grandchildren: Greta Braun, Jared Braun, Amanda Berg, Brittany Berg, and Kimberley Baldwin;
6 great grandchildren; nieces Everlee Lykes and Betty Jo Dickey of Georgia; and numerous other relatives. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by son Jacky Youngblood and 2 brothers.

Dorothy "Dot" Imogene Cummings, 87, passed away on June 22, 2010 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Tennessee Cemetery in Tenaha, Texas.

Mrs. Cummings, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the daughter of the late Oatha Allen Ramsey and the former Era Lane.

She will be greatly missed by her son, grandchildren & great grandchildren who loved her dearly.

She is survived by one son, Raymond L. Hammons of Lafayette, La; two grandchildren, Laurie Hammons Romero and husband John Romero of Broussard, La and Heather Hammons and Sidney Syon of Broussard, La; two great grandchildren, Brennan Romero and Molly Romero.

Mrs. Idell Langford Johnson, age 92, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at a Nacogdoches hospital.

Mrs. Johnson was born May 30, 1918, in Shelby County as a daughter of the late Mary (Watson) Langford and Clarence Bert Langford. She was a member of First Pentecostal Church and a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother to her family.

Survivors include her son, Ronald Martin Johnson and wife, Mary, of Nacogdoches; a sister, Mozell Mahoney of Arizona; two granddaughters, Lori Smith and husband, Chris, and Allison Barnhill and husband Luke, all of Nacogdoches; and seven great-grandchildren, Austin Smith, Hunter Smith, Amber Smith, Jacob Smith, Trenton Channel, Triston Channel, and Easton Barnhill, all of Nacogdoches.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Johnson.

Services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, Nacogdoches, with Bro. Burton Holt officiating. Interment will follow at Simpson Campground Cemetery in Woden.

Visitation will be Friday, June 25, 5 to 7 p.m., at Cason Monk-Metcalf.

Mark McKinzie, 46, of Carthage, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2010.  He was born August 15, 1963 in Center to Lee McKinzie and Hazel Snider McKinzie. Mark was currently employed by Strong Service where he was a wireline operator. He had formerly served in law enforcement in Shelby County for sixteen years and had served as Joaquin City Marshall. Mark was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Carthage.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, June 25, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home with Bro. James Elighie McDaniel, age 93, entered into rest on June 21, 2010, at a hospital in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born April 21, 1917, in San Augustine County, Texas, to the late Elias Jasper McDaniel and Josie Horton McDaniel.

He was a member of the Harvey Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Broaddus. During WWII he worked in the shipyards in Orange. After returning to East Texas, he went to work in the logging business.

He is survived by his daughters Avor Nell Abbott and husband Mack of Broaddus and Margie Ann Morton of Broaddus; sons Marty Darrell McDaniel of Broaddus and James McDaniel and wife Sandra of Broaddus; brother Lawrence McDaniel of Center; sister Lena Phillips of Broaddus; step-son Robert Johnson of Houston; step-daughter Kandi McWhorter and husband Rocky of Friendswood; 14 grandchildren, 28 Great-Grandchildren and 8 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elias and Josie McDaniel; wives Ethel McDaniel and Irene McDaniel; and brother Bartley McDaniel.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Harvey Creek Missionary Baptist Church, in Broaddus, Texas, with Bro. Jesse Moore and Bro. Don Lofton officiating. Visitation will be at the Harvey Creek Missionary Baptist Church beginning at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery in San Augustine County.

Harold Glyn Hughes, age 85 of Timpson, passed away Friday evening June 18, 2010 at a Garrison Nursing Home. He was born February 2, 1925 in Shelby County to Vesper Hughes and Oma Chapman Hughes.  Mr. Hughes was a member of The Newburn Masonic Lodge and also a member of the El Karuba Shriners of Shreveport La.. Harold was a member of the First Christian Church of Timpson.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, June 21, 2010 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Center, with Rev. Rex Humphries officiating, interment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Margie Barnett Beckham age 88 of Nacogdoches formally of Joaquin was born December 10, 1921 to LaBorn Augustus Barnett, Jr. and Ida Ora Greer Barnett. Services will be held 10:00am Monday, June 21, 2010 at Watson and Sons Chapel with Bro Charles Hall and Rev. Danny Simmons officiating, interment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center, Texas. Ms. Beckham was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 348. She was also a member of Jackson Missionary Baptist Church of Joaquin. Margie retired from Farmers State Bank in Center, Texas.

James Stephen (Steve) Adams passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Clairmont Skilled Nursing Home in Longview, Texas after a two week battle with cancer. He was born January 25, 1942 in Center, Texas. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Robert Calvin Adams, Jr., Mother, Marie Harris Paul Johnson, Brother, R.C. (Bob) Adams III, and sister-in-law, Melanie Tucker McNiel. Steve grew up in Center and was Quarterback for Center High School and was an outstanding member of the golf team. He was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a B.S. in Business. He was employed by E. F. Hutton in Longview after completing his stockbroker studies in New York City. Steve is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Tucker Adams, their daughter, Monica Adams Robinson and husband, Trey and three grandsons, Robbie, Reid, and Rhett Robinson of Austin, Texas. A sister, Teresa Paul Tebow, and her daughter, Celeste Tebow, both of Longview, Texas. A nephew, Larry Adams and wife, Connie, and their son, Justin of Kilgore, Texas.

Services for Steve Adams are at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. Visitation will be Friday, June 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 19 at Rosewood Park in Longview at 4:00 PM.

Donald Stewart, 68, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010 at his residence. Memorial Service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Mangum Funeral Home with Brother Wayne Bickley officiating.

Donald was born in Shelby County on September 29, 1941 to Roy Stewart and Minnie Wilburn. Donald grew up in Shelby County but settled in at Tenaha where he attended school. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Navy for nearly six years. After his service in the military, Donald worked as a police officer in Galveston for four years. Upon Donald’s return to Shelby County, he began work as an electrician. Donald opened Center Muffler Shop where he would own, operate, and manage for twenty years.

Donald retired in 2000 and soon thereafter, relocated to Pretty Point in Huxley. Donald enjoyed the outdoors and living on the lake. Donald loved the Huxley community and his dear friends and neighbors there. In retirement, Donald had become an industrious community member by helping in several community projects there in Huxley. The community is dedicating a boat dock and ramp in his honor for his service and contributions. In particular, the family would like to thank Bobbie Jennings for her friendship to Donald in his time of need.

Mr. Frank Ponder, 88, longtime resident of San Augustine County, Texas, passed away late Friday evening, June 11, 2010, at Twin Lakes Care Center in San Augustine.

Frank was born to the late Lillie (Eppes) Ponder and Berry Ponder on August 28, 1921, in Bland Lake Community, in San Augustine County, Texas. He was a retied mechanic and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9313 in San Augustine, and a member of the Antioch Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 14th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel in San Augustine, interment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery in San Augustine County. Officiating will be Alton Shaw. Visitation will be Sunday evening, June 13th, from the hours of 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home.

Shalee was born to Linda (Tuttle) Samples and Frank Samples on February 8, 1980, in Baytown, Texas. She was currently a student attending College and was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Broaddus.

She was born May 3, 1920, in Cushing, Texas, as a daughter of the late Pete and Nettie Reagan. Mrs. Frette was a retired beautician.

She is survived by her son, Larry W. Byrd, pastor of Neuville Baptist Church, and a daughter, Joan Buchanan.

Memorial services are set for 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Eva Dell (Roberts) Paramore, 88, of Tomball, TX, passed away June 9, 2010, in Tomball. Born November 9, 1921, in the Tennessee Community of Shelby County, TX, she was the daughter of the late James and Myrtle (Bowlin) Roberts. Eva was known to many as “MeMe”, a name given to her by her granddaughter Karen.

In addition to her parents, Eva Paramore was preceded in death by her husband Afton Paramore and sister Freda Bowlin.

Survivors include her son Ron Paramore and wife Angie of Cypress, TX; granddaughter Karen Paramore of Seguin, TX; grandsons David Content and wife Katy of Spring, TX and Russell Content and wife Pamela of Houston, TX; great grandsons Alex and Ben Content; sister Helen Corbitt of Refugio, TX; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Eva Paramore will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 11, 2010, at Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, Timpson, TX, with Rev. Kenneth Verner officiating. Tommie Lee Cotton, passed away June 4, 2010. Services will be Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 11 A.M. at East Legion CME Church in Timpson, with Elder Johnny Wilson officiating, Rev. W.G. Morris of New Hope CME Pastor.

Tommy Lee was an only child born to the union of Lee and Martha Bell of Timpson, on December 24, 1917. She joined East Legion CME Church at a very early age, had a very strict upbringing in it and she loved her church.

She married to Howard Mays and from this marriage she raised his daughter Lunita May Polly. She later married Mr. Cotton who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father. Howard Mays and daughter Lunita May Polley. She departed this life June 4, 2010 at Pine Grove Nursing Home.

She leaves to morn her passing; grandchildren, Joyce Dawson of Ft Worth, Reneate barnes of Dallas, Texas Keneth Barnes of Dallas, Texas, Rosalyn Polly of Ft. Worth,Paul Barnes of Timpson, Arlinda Richardson, April and Ashley Johnson whom she called her children; four close cousins, Glenda Johnson Brown of Dallas, Thelma Ray Johnson Green of Los Angeles, Michael R Driver and Luedene Driver of Timpson, a special brother-in-law Sonny Mays of Los Angeles, other cousins and friends.

Timothy Brian Spruiell, 39, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010 in Dallas. He was born November 3, 1970 in Levelland to J.C. Spruiell and Carol McCrary Spruiell. Mr. Spruiell was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Odessa.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. James Thomas (Tommy) Rogers, age 87, entered into rest at his residence in San Augustine County, Saturday, June 5, 2010. He was born September 17, 1922, in San Augustine County to the late William Madison Rogers and Minnie (Wall) Rogers.

Tommy was a member of the Macune Missionary Baptist Church for 50+ years and taught Adult Sunday School classes there for 35 years. During WWII he served his country as a U.S. Marine. He was a member of the Broaddus Masonc Lodge for more than 60 years. He worked for Diamond Alkali as a Warehouse Manager for 22 years and then as a Purchasing Agent for Holly Farms for 16 years.

He is survived by his wife Patsy Griffin Rogers of San Augustine; daughters Cheryl Rogers Cook and husband Bill of Austin, Deborah Rogers Woods and husband Donald of San Augustine; grandson Joey Woods and wife Heather of San Augustine; great-grandchildren Jesse Logan Woods and Case Aaron Woods, both of San Augustine; and brother Billy Rogers and wife Maxine of San Augustine.

Services will be Monday, June 7, 2010, 2:00 P.M., at the Macune Missionary Baptist Church, San Augustine County, with Bro. Burl McBride and Bro. Travis Kitchens officiating. Burial will follow in the Macune Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, June 6, 2010, 5:00 till 8:00 P.M. in Wyman Roberts Funeral Home.

Solomon Zane Allen, 13, of Center, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Center with Bro. Bruce James officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born May 29, 1997 to Matt Allen and Cheri (Lucas) Wheeler. He was a member of Center Christian Church. Zane just completed the 6th grade at Center Middle School. He was a member of the school band where he played the drums and he was also on the 6th grade tennis team. Zane truly was an outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, riding 4-wheelers, swimming and he also loved riding his horse, named “Pinky”. He loved playing outside with his cousins and friends where he definately was “ ALL BOY”! Zane was a member of the Shelby County Roughrider mounted drill team. He was also a member of the Shelby County 4-H where he showed goats in the Shelby County Livestock Show.

He is preceded in death by his Grandfather, Gilbert Wheeler and Brother, Cory Bertrand.
