Services for W. “Earl” Jackson, 56, of Diboll, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Ryan Chapel Cemetery.

Cherished and adoring husband of Monica, loving and devoted father to April Kristin and Jennifer Tara. Earl was born December 23, 1954 to Mr. and Mrs. William Henry Jackson of Center. He graduated from Center High School in 1973, where he excelled in baseball and football and also played basketball. He was a star pitcher in both high school and college and was offered a minor league contract by the San Francisco Giants, which he declined because of the rule of that era that prevented obtaining future scholarships after any affiliation or commitment to a professional baseball organization.

After graduation, he received a full football scholarship from Stephen F. Austin State University, but later decided to leave SFA football at the urging of his teammate, Rodney Paulette, for Angelina College in Lufkin to play baseball, Earl's true sports calling. He would always say "he may have blown a full football scholarship, but thanks to Paulette, he had found "his baby- Monica, the girl he was going to marry."

After obtaining a criminal justice degree from Angelina College, he served as an Angelina County Juvenile Probation Officer under then-judge Claude Edward Welch. Later, he joined the Lufkin Fire Department, where, as a rookie, he received the prestigious American Red Cross Certificate of Merit, the highest award given for life saving efforts, personally signed by President Jimmy Carter and presented to him by then-Congressman Charles Wilson.

His wife, Monica, and his daughters, April and Jennifer, were his love, his life and his inspiration and was surpassed only by their love, devotion and adoration for him. To April, her daddy was "her hero and her everything," but to Earl, his "heroes" were his baby daughters and they meant everything in the world to him.

To face this world without our dad and our hero seems an impossibility. No husband or father could ever be more loved... and our world has forever lost its sunshine.
Earl's angel, Jennifer Tara, lifelong best friend David Rawlinson and favorite cousin Joe Jackson preceded him into Heaven, in addition to numerous friends, relatives and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Monica, daughter, April, mother-in-law, Odell Temple and brothers Sammy, Jerry and O'Neal and their wives, Billie Jo, Diane and Carolyn and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Pallbearers are David Murphy, John Barry Porter, Kenneth Floyd, Kenny Tucker, Roger Cope and Johnathon Temple.
Honorary pallbearers are Sammy Paul Tucker, Phillip Camp, Kenneth White, Hal McClelland, Carl Bryan, Ted Lovett, Cody Sewell, Lee Thompson, Kenny Cole, Clay Samuels, Larry Sanders, Christian Weathers, Mike Gipson, Dustin Ledford and LeeFran Skelton.
