Ramon D. Jamison, 72, of Center, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at his residence. He was born on November 17, 1938 in San Augustine County to Marvin Jamison and Velma Walters Jamison. Mr. Jamison was a deacon at The Called Out Church in Center.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, September 2, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Waller and Bro. Cecil Chessher officiating. Interment will follow at Strong Cemetery in Huxley.

Pallbearers will be Brad Jernigan, Matthew Jamison, Randy Strickland, Andy Bailey, Michael Spells and Johnny Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearer will be Casey Grabbs.

Derek Mark Moore, 23, of Huxley, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in Bismarck, North Dakota as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born October 29, 1987 in Longview to Nathan Moore and Kim (Wilson) Moore. He attended New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church. He was currently employed by Great White Pressure Control as a Snubbing Supervisor. Derek loved hunting & the outdoors. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral service for Mr. Chad David Clifton, 32, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2011, at 2:00 pm at Holly Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Homer Murray officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Springs Cemetery with full Military Honors.
Chad was born on December 25, 1978, in Fort Worth, Texas. He passed away on August 24, 2011, in Nacogdoches, Texas. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011, from 6-8 pm at Laird Funeral Home.

Chad grew up in Nacogodches. He graduated from Garrison High School and attended Angelina College. He served his country in the US Marine Corps in the reserves in Galveston and serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal E-4 after six years of service.

Chad loved to hunt, fish and garden, anything that had to do with the outdoors. He loved to tinker with things and had a knack for fixing anything. He was a self employed logger and loved to cook for his family. Chad was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother and uncle and all who knew and loved Chad will miss his tremendous spirit.

Chad is survived by his loving wife of six years, Amanda Heflin Clifton of Nacogdoches; a son, Lane Clifton; daughter, Bailey Heflin; parents, Sammy and Linda Clifton, all of Nacogdoches; one sister, Cheri Reneau and husband, Bart of Garrison; paternal grandmother, Ada Weatherly of Nacogdoches; father and mother-in-law, Wayne and Patty Heflin of Nacogdoches; sister-in-law, Gena Vaughn and Casey of Houston; brother-in-laws, Jeff Heflin and wife, Becky, of Katy, Jason Hattermann and wife, Debbie of Nacogdoches, and Greg and wife, Stephanie of Nacogdoches; nieces and nephews, Cadie and Chloe of Garrison, Jacob, Reagan, and Reese of Katy, and Madison, Emma, and Kelsi of Nacogdoches; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and other extended family and great friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louis and Della Livingston and grandfather, Gordon Weatherly.

Roy L. Permenter, 66, of Shelbyville passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Life Care Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born in Shelby County on August 7, 1945 to Thomas Bryant Permenter and Nellie Taylor Permenter. Mr. Permenter was a member of Pipefitters Local #195. He attended Mt. Calvary Full Gospel Church.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 26, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Windham officiating. Interment will follow at Strong Cemetery in Huxley.

Wesley Blake Jones passed away August 6, 2011, in Cartagena, Columbia. He was 34 years old.

Blake was a 1994 graduate of Nacogdoches High School. He attended Texas A & M before going into the offshore oil industry. He worked as an Assistant Driller, traveling throughout the world. Blake loved sporting events, a passion he enjoyed sharing with his beloved brother, Jeffrey. He delighted in showering his mother and brother with gifts sent from around the world. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Blake is preceded in death by his father, Charles Wesley Jones. He leaves behind his mother, Patricia Jones; one brother, Jeffrey Wade Jones; and sister-in-law, Kellie Buth Jones.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 27, 2011, in Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, Timpson, with Dr. Josh Walters officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery, Timpson.

Mr. James Elmer McBride, 89, lifelong resident of of San Augustine County, Texas, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, in Lufkin, Texas.

A native of San Augustine County, Texas, he was born to Joseph E. and Robi (Fitzgerald) McBride on April 22, 1922. He was a WWII Veteran. He answered the call to serve his country in the Army on November 28, 1942, in Camp Walters, Texas. He served in France, Holland, Belguim, and Germany, with the 413th Infantry Regiment, Company K. He achieved the rank of Technical Sargent. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal along with other medals. He was discharged with honors on November 8, 1945.

He married the love of his life, Betty Caldwell of San Augustine on November 27th, 1955. They were married 50 years until her death in 2006. They had two children Larry and Linda. He was a farmer, truck driver, and carpenter. He was a beloved father, brother, son and husband. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2011, in the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, with interment following in the McRae Cemetery in San Augustine County, Texas. Officiating will be Rick Russell. Visitation will be Friday evening, August 26, 2011, at Wyman Roberts.

He is survived by his children: Son, Larry McBride and his wife, Debbie of San Augustine; Daughter, Linda Hill and her husband, Frank of San Augustine; 7 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Brothers, Preston McBride and his wife, Maree of Texas City, Texas; Dexter McBride and his wife, JoAnn of San Augustine; Sisters: Pearl McBride Price of Lufkin, Texas, Mildred McBride Tannery of Nacogdoches, Opal McBride Pike of San Augustine; along with other numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents, Joseph and Robi Fitgerald McBride, Brothers: Doss and Authur McBride.

Katie Newton Laffety, (95) of Center, passed away at Holiday Nursing Center on Friday, August, 19, 2011. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 27, 2011, at St. Paul Baptist Church, Hopkins St., Center, Texas, at 11:00am. Bro. Freddie D. Wilson will be officiating. Mrs. Laffety will be buried at New Morning Glory Cemetery in Mansfield, Louisiana.

Visitation will be at Hicks Mortuary Chapel on August 26, 2011, from 4-8pm.

Mrs. Laffety local survivals are nephew, James “Studebaker” Newton of Center, special friends Mary & L.B. Suell, and Agnes Jean & Wendell Johnson of Center.

Maxine Stark, 92, of Center, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Home Sweet Home Residential Care in Houston, Texas.

She was born on May 1, 1919 to Flaudia Rachel and Robert Lee Williford of the Antioch community near Center. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas of San Augustine, her sister, Syble Williford Rudd, and her brothers, Clifton and Dolf all of Center.

She is survived by two sons, Reggie and Stan of Houston; a daughter, Pamela of Dallas; five grandchildren, Stanley, Jr., Stephen, Scotti, Jeff and Christi; as well as five great grandchildren; Stephen II, Mason, Angeliea, Marissa and Kai all living in the Houston area.

She was a lifelong dedicated Christian who loved the Lord and served as an organist at the Lone Star Baptist Church on Shelbyville Highway for several years. Prior to moving back to Center with her husband, Douglas Stark, who worked for the Light Champion Newspaper, Maxine lived in Houston and attended Thornton St. Baptist, Garden Oaks Baptist and Oak Forest Baptist churches where she played the organ and sang in the choirs.

Maxine and Douglas loved to work in the garden and for a time sold tomato plants and flowers from their home on the Shelbyville Highway.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center with Bro. Carl Smith presiding.

Charles E. Pou, 92, of Orange, died Monday, August 22, 2011, in Orange.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend John W. Warren of First United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m., Thursday at Ramah Cemetery in Tenaha. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Pou was born in Tenaha to Nathaniel Allen and Frances (Coussons) Pou on January 12, 1919.  He was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin, served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 2nd Armored Division in the North Africa, Sicily and European theatres of WWII and was an accountant for the Lutcher and Moore Lumber Company, American Bridge Division of US Steel and the Orange County Tax Assessor Office. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 60 years and a member of the Orange Lions Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 54 years, Sybie Jean (Schrieber) Pou; brother, William T. Pou and sister, Mildred Pou Wisenbaker.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Charles E. Pou, Jr. of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Carolyn Jean Pou of Austin; sister, Grace Pou McLaughlin of the Woodlands and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Graveside services for Jarvis T. Ammons, former Nacogdoches City Manager, will be held at the Martinsville Cemetery, located on FM 95 in Martinsville, Texas, at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, with Reverend Allen Reed officiating.

Mr. Ammons passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family. He has born on June 12, 1926, in Nacogoches and was a resident of the area for most of his life.

Ammons graduated from Texas A&M University in 1949 and held at lifelong allegiance to Aggie tradition. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on vessels in the Pacific theatre.

Survivors include his sons, Mark Ammons of Nacogdoches and Michael Ammons of Houston, daughter Rose Stanaland and husband Alvin Stanaland of Nacogdoches. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Helen Rose Fuller Ammons, and by his parents, Jim Ammons and Velma Sitton Ammons.

Graveside services for Mrs. Nelda Jean Clark, age 73, of Longview, TX formerly of Carthage, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Mt. Bethel Cemetery near Gary, TX with Pastor David Proctor officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Clark passed away on Saturday night, Aug. 20, 2011, in Kilgore, TX.

Nelda Jean Graves Clark was born on May 1, 1938, in Carthage, TX to Deward Lee and Nancy Nello Ritter Graves. She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1955, and attended Tyler Business College. Mrs. Clark married Leo Willis Clark on Nov. 30, 1957, in Carthage and he preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 2008. She worked as a bank teller at First National Bank in Carthage for many years and was the first person to operate a bank computer in Carthage. Mrs. Clark loved planting flowers, shopping, and helping others. She loved her family dearly, was a wonderful Christian mother, and dear friend. Mrs. Clark was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. She moved to Longview in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, David Wayne Youngblood who passed away on Dec. 19, 1990.

Mrs. Clark is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Clark of Longview; one son, Leo Anthony Clark and wife Angela of Center; three brothers, Rex Graves and wife Beverly of Carthage, Lynn Graves and wife Darline of Carthage, and Johnny Earl Graves and wife Patsy of Denver; three grandchildren, Jessica and LeAnn Clark of Center and Ryan Youngblood of Nacogdoches. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Clark.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff and nurses of Margaret’s House/Beacon Hospice of Longview for the loving care shown to Mrs. Clark.

Mrs. Wallace passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital. Mrs. Wallace was born on June 11, 1929 in Morris County, the daughter of Austin and Edith Marie Parham. She married Frank W. Rholes III in 1950 and he preceded her in death in 1990. She married M. E. Wallace in 1998 and he preceded her in death in 2010. Mrs. Wallace was a Teacher for over 30 years and she retired from the Sulphur Springs Independent School District. She was a member of the League Street Church of Christ and the Retired Teachers Association.

Al Villarreal, 15, of San Augustine, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, in San Augustine, after an extended braved fought illness.

Al was a native of Brazoria County, Texas, and was born to Heather Kathlene Bragg on July 14, 1996. He was a very special and much loved young man. Born June 14, 1925, in Timpson, TX, Warren C. Brown was the son of the late John Allen and Lorena “Renie” (Corder) Brown. He was a graduate of Timpson High School, Kilgore College, and the University of Texas. He was a pharmacist for over 50 years. Mr. Brown grew up a Baptist and also attended the Presbyterian church. Warren Brown was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served as Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy on an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific during World War II.

Survivors include son Robert C. Born November 28, 1921, in Timpson, TX, Joe Emmett Nelson was the son of the late Charlie S. and Hettie (Graves) Nelson. He was a graduate of Timpson High School and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He and Christine Franks were married in Tyler, TX, on April 30, 1945. Mr. Nelson was a lab technician for Neches Butane for 33 years in Port Neches, TX. In 1981 he and Christine moved back to his homeplace in the Silas Community near Timpson.

Having grown up on a farm, he always appreciated his rural heritage. Hunting, fishing, and shrimping while living on the coast, brought him much pleasure. After his retirement, he continued to enjoy outside work, such as mowing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife Christine of Timpson; sons Charles Nelson and wife Brenda of Moss Bluff, LA, and Neal Nelson and wife Valerie of Nederland; daughters Janis Nelson of Houston and Jackie Cravey and husband Michael of Spring; brothers Gordon Nelson and Elzie Nelson, both of Timpson; grandchildren David and Meagan Nelson and Kevin and Kelli Cravey; and great grandchildren Zac and Maddox Nelson.

Burial will follow at White Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 am at Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fancher was born on April 24, 1915, in Center, Texas to the late Charles Thomas and Dolly Danley Davis. She passed away on August 3, 2011, in Nacogdoches. Flora lived her entire life in the Grigsby Community in Shelby County until 1990 when she moved to Nacogdoches to be closer to her daughter.

She is survived by her children, Joe Fancher and wife, Alma of Dallas, Allen Fancher of Lufkin and Barbara Clifton and husband, Hollis of Nacogdoches; granddaughters, Sonja Rouse and husband, Stewart of Boerne, Texas, Carrie Fry and husband, Darryl of Baytown, Sherrie Sikes of Midland, Michele Coats and husband, Michael of Nacogdoches and Kelly Fancher of Dallas; six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five siblings and her husband, Samuel Thomas Fancher.

Pallbearers will be Daryl Fry, Rex Davis, Stewart Rouse, Haron Russell, Beeman Johnson and Michael Coats.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Byars and Roger Hillyer.

Funeral service for Mr. Veston Monroe "Tenny" Harvey, 86, of Gary, Texas will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011, at 10:00 am at Taylor Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Platt officiating. Burial will be at Corinth Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, from 6-8 pm at Taylor Funeral Home.

Mr. Harvey was born on April 9, 1925, in the Wilder Community, Texas to the late Jones Jefferson and Sallie Anderson Harvey. Veston was a long time member of Corinth Cemetery Board. He farmed most of his life but worked for Texaco for 20 years before retiring and was a member of the Garrett Springs Christian Church and currently was attending Woodland Christian Church in Timpson.

Being a farmer, he spent a lot of time outdoors, doing this he gained a love of fishing and gardening through out his life. Being civic minded he served his community on the Gary School Board.

Veston is survived by his wife of 59 years, Esther Marie Harvey of Gary, Texas; a son, Emmett Harvey and wife, Gayle of Gary, Texas; a daughter, Sandra Abernathy and husband, Gene of Carthage, Texas; four grandchildren, Kathryn Stamps and husband, Ryan, Karyn Smith and husband, Tim, Tammy McFarlin and husband, Michael and Timothy McKnight; and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Elton E. "Short" Harvey and his wife Sue of Longview. In addition to his family he is survived by a host of other extended family and close friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Donnie Lee, Ralph and Burtis Harvey; two sisters, Vera and Bonnie.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Harvey, Owen Harvey, Wesley Boren, Burke Moreland, Michael Johnson, Tommy McKnight. Honorary pallbearers will be Garland Downing, Johnny Woodfin, Jerry Woodfin, Jr., Butch Trala, Tom Amos and Don Amos.

Edward Eugene Webb, 82, of Center, passed away on August 1, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Webb was born on February 5, 1929 in Shelby County to Lomax Webb and Vesie Isabelle Pate Webb. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Center, where he was a Deacon and also taught a boy’s class for many years.

Mr. Webb grew up on his father’s dairy farm, Magnolia Dairy, in center and continued delivering milk to his father’s customers after the dairy closed. He was an independent distributor of dairy products in Shelby County for a total of fifty eight years and three months, delivering Land O’ Pines and then Foremost, until retiring at age 78.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Center with Rev. Michael Hale, Rev. Carl Smith and Rev. Harold Hanson officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Pallbearers will be Clint Porterfield, Barry Webb, Darren Webb, Steven Neuville, Peyton Porterfield, Ed McRae, Michael Spells, Glen Campbell and Johnny Barr. Honorary pallbearers will be the First Baptist Church Deacons, Bennie Boles, Paul Ross, Jessie Covington, S.W. Carter, Joe Shofner, Bob Walker, Phillip Porterfield, Jimmy and Wayne Hagler.
