Kennith Edward Lock, 64, of Center, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 at his home. He was born January 1, 1947 in Center to Elzie E. Lock and Willie Ballard Lock. Mr. Lock was a member of North Jericho Baptist Church in Shelby County.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Hale and Bennie Boles officiating. Interment will follow at North Jericho Cemetery in Shelby County.

Bennie Ferne George, 83, of Pasadena, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. John Bender officiating. Burial will follow at Old Center Cemetery in Panola County. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Mangum Funeral Home.

She was born August 15, 1927 in Shelby County to James Burke and Willie Grace (Cammack) Samford. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Master Degree and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Sam Houston State University in Education. She was also an Education Diagnostician for Pasadena ISD. In 1973, she received Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America award. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pasadena.

Funeral services for Gary “Rip” Ritnour, 53, of Huntington will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Jackson Colwell officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Jonesville Cemetery.

Mr. Ritnour was born September 4, 1957 in San Augustine, Texas to the late Sarah “Marie” (Warr) and Herman “Pete” Ritnour, and died Saturday, May 28, 2011 in a Houston hospital.

Mr. Ritnour was a lifetime resident of the East Texas area, and had resided in Huntington since 1984. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and retired from Lufkin Industries following 26 years of service. Mr. Ritnour was an avid motorcyclist and rode a Harley Davidson Street Glide. He was a member of Gypsy MC International - Lufkin Chapter. Mr. Ritnour was a member of the Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Vickie Ritnour of Huntington; daughters and sons-in-law, Holly and Joshua Glover and Sarah and Cody Spears, all of Lufkin; son, Morgan Ritnour and girlfriend Megan Frazier of Lufkin; grandchildren, Ethan Glover and Sophie Glover, both of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janis and Chick Harris of Huntington and Tonja and Johnny Gladden of Georgia; brother and sister-in-law, Stan and Deanna Finn of Van; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ritnour was preceded in death by his stepfather, William Finn; and grandparents, Simion “Tommy” and Almedia Ritnour and Hooker and Nell Warr.

Joel Edward (Ed) Morgan Sr., 80, well known and respected East Texas businessman, died Wednesday, May 25, at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Sunset Memorial Park, located at 5127 North Street in Nacogdoches.

Mr. Morgan He was born in Houston, Texas, to Charles and Callie Stevenson Morgan on October 2, 1930.

Mr. Morgan was a lifetime resident of Nacogdoches and a graduate of Nacogdoches High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. He served in the air force during the Korean War from 1950 until 1954. Mr. Morgan was the CEO and President of Morgan Oil Company for 56 years.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ellen Morgan, his parents Charles and Callie Morgan, his brother, Dr. Charles Morgan, and nephew, Charles Morgan III.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Shelton Morgan, their children, Callie Morgan Bricker and husband, Randy; Claire Morgan Jordan and husband, Doug; Julie Morgan Taylor and husband Rick, and Ed Morgan, Jr. and wife Kristen. 10 grandchildren: Jennifer Jordan, Morgan Jordan, Ellen Jordan, Robert Jordan and wife Emily, Caroline Jordan, Shelton Taylor, Grayson Taylor, Ian Morgan, Sam Morgan, and Jed Morgan; 3 great grandchildren; Extended family members include Ab and Hazel Abernethy and their children, Luanna, Robert, Deedy, Maggie, and Ben. Nephews Steve Morgan and Wesley Morgan. Also, his lifelong family friend Clara Jean Flemons, and his beloved co-workers at Morgan Oil Company.

Ed loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Throughout his life, he continued to be proud of his athletic accomplishments and his nickname, “Rabbit.” Ed’s life revolved around his family; he was a devoted son, husband, father, and friend. Ed was loved and will be missed by many. He loved life and lived every day to its fullest.

Mrs. Ora Mae Beard, 83, longtime resident of the Broaddus Community, in San Augustine County, passed away early Tuesday, May 24, 2011, in Lufkin, after an extended illness.

She was a custodian for the Nederland Independent School District, and was married to the love of her life James Nelson Beard for 60 years of whom preceded her in death on May 25, 2009. Being baptized as a young women by Luther Blackmon at Pt. Arthur, Texas. She was a very faithful member of the Broaddus Church of Christ where she would attend church in her motor scooter wheelchair.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, with interment to be in the Broaddus Cemetery, in Broaddus. Our beloved Grandmother, Fannie Bell 'Polly' Windham, passed away April 17, 2011 at the age 91. Graveside services will be held at Strong Cemetery on Saturday, May 21st at 2 pm. She was preceeded in death by her husband Dartis Windham and two sons Gene Braxton and Tom Braxton. She is survived by her brother, Jessie Martin sister, Christine Carter two sons, Paul Braxton and Kelton Braxton 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.


Lorene Chandler passed away on May 16, 2011, in Nacogdoches. She was born on August 3, 1936, in Swift, Texas to Henry Raines and Dollie Durrett Raines.
Lorene grew up in the Caledonia area of Rusk County, graduated from Mt. Enterprise High School and completed nursing school in 1954. She began her nursing career in the emergency room at Memorial Hospital and continued caring for patients in private practice for 25 years. She went on to co-own and operate Chandler Equipment Company. She became a very knowledgeable business woman in a man's world and was well known and respected by many farmers and ranchers of East Texas.

Lorene loved, guided and had precious relationships with her children. She loved antiques and spent many happy hours at her farm, seeing after the cattle, watching the calves play and flowers grow. She touched many people's lives with acts of kindness and generosity that went untold. She will be remembered for her enthusiasm and quest for a full, happy, productive life.

Survivors include a son, Robert Weaver of Dallas; one daughter, Beverly Heaton and husband, Donald of Redland; two grandchildren, Sara Hutto Thomson and Mark Hutto; great-grandchild, Briley Kate Thompson; sister, Lerlene Raines of Caledonia; two brothers, John Raines and Buck Raines of Timpson; former spouse and close friend, Troy Chandler.

Bruce Dalby, 89, of Center, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 in Center. He was born August 12, 1921 in Center to Ira Dalby and Inez Crenshaw Dalby. Mr. Dalby served in the Navy and was a deacon at Providence Missionary Baptist Church.

Audria Regina “Mama” Robertson, 59, of Tenaha, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011 in Center. She was born March 10, 1952 in Galveston to Omer Ray Cochran, Sr. and Audria Mae Cobb Cochran. Mrs. Robertson was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tenaha. Mrs. Robertson was a longtime resident of Tenaha and proudly served her community for over sixteen years.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm, Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Union Cemetery in Tenaha with Judge “Dude” Jones officiating.

Pallbearers will be Michael Vaughn, Johnny Vaughn, Kenneth Robertson, Jason McDonald, Jeff Stewart, and James Watson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Thompson, Matt Linebarger, Rodgers Cochran and Troy Parrish.

Edward Ray “Ed” Furlow, Edward Ray “Ed” Furlow, 86, of Joaquin, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Schumpert Hospital in Shreveport, LA.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Elumbaugh and Bro. Mike Fodge officiating. Burial will follow at Wimberly Cemetery in Huxley. Visitation will be Sunday, May 15, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born October 2, 1924 in Shelbyville to James Thomas and Vera (Permenter) Furlow. He retired from Enterprise Products and he also retired from Joaquin ISD where he drove a school bus for 10 years. He was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist in Joaquin and a member of Teamsters Local 568 in Shreveport, LA. Mr. Ed loved hunting and fishing & he dearly his family and will be greatly missed.

A graveside service for Mr. Alan Charles Williams, age 59, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at New Hope Cemetery in Milam, TX, with Rev. Steven Shotzman officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Williams passed away on Sunday morning, May 8, 2011, at his home in Carthage.

Alan Charles Williams was born on Feb. 28, 1952 in Center, TX to A C Williams and Jimmie Opal Williams. He graduated from Hemphill High School with the class of 1971. Mr. Williams served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He married Alice Marlene Wright on Oct. 9, 2008, in Texarkana, AR. Mr. Williams worked as an operator for Luminant Mining for over 30 years. He moved to Carthage over 30 years ago from Sabine County, TX. Mr. Williams was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Carthage. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother, Daniel Earl Williams.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Marlene Williams of Carthage; two step-daughters, Heather Allen and husband George of the Woods Community and Allison Charles of Carthage; two step-sons, Warren Noble and wife Angela of Little Rock, AR and Colin Noble and wife Shay of Marshall; six step-grandchildren, Devoni Allen, Rebecca Galloway, Ben, Nikki, Connor, and Cannon Noble; one step-great-grandchild, Elizabeth Galloway; two brothers, Wayne Williams and wife Frances of Lumberton and Martin Williams and wife Debbie of Brazoria; one nephew, Channon Williams and wife Brandy of Kountze; four nieces, Cindy Parrie and husband Eric of Zwolle, Delana Williams of Lumberton, Holly Soderman and husband Sam of Pearland, and Marci Reyes and husband Jason of Brazoria; two uncles, Waydean Williams of Center and Carmon Williams of Milam; and one aunt, Sandra Newman of Spring.

Benna Dell Russell was born February 18, 1919 in Bronson, Texas to Matthew Hamilton (Hamp Stephens) and Dovie Smith Stephens. She died May 5, 2011 at Woodland Heights Medical Center, Lufkin, Texas.

She was graduated from Center High School as Valedictorian and was also Valedictorian of her Nacogdoches Beauty College graduating class. She was married to Desmon Sidney Russell on November 17, 1937 until his death May 17, 1996. She was an active member of Lufkin’s First Baptist Church for over 70 years and was secretary of the Rebekah Sunday School Class. She enjoyed singing and was a member of the Senior Choir. She loved her God, her church, her family and her many friends. She loved flowers and was an avid gardener, an accomplished seamstress and a wonderful cook. In her later years, she pursued genealogy and authored her own biography. She also enjoyed birdwatching.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children and their spouses: Charles Ray and Suzanne Russell, Lynda and Bob Melton, Carlyn and Duncan Garner, all of Lufkin, and Deborah and Alan Webb of Vidor. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren and spouses: Craig and Melissa Russell of Austin; Robin Melton Allen, and Bob Melton, Jr. and Mona of Lufkin; Carl Russell, Houston; Cathy and Mark Kettering of Diboll; Angela and Ismael Monroig, Pembroke Pines, Fla.; Tamara and Phillip Adamo, Cannonsburg, Penn.; AIC Alan David Webb, Moody AFB, Ga.; Tammy and David Miller and Amy and Allen Rush, all of Lufkin. She also had 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

She is also survived by her sisters: LaFaye Perkins, Sue Farris, and Maxine Malnar and brother-in-law, Harold, all of Lufkin. Also brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Margie Stephens and sister-in-law Murel Thomason, all of Center.

She is also survived by her loving care givers Sherry Johnson, Elvia Silvia, Rebbecca Reeves, Demicia Mandoza and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, Desmon Sidney Russell, a brother, T.O. Stephens, and an infant grandson.
