Funeral services for Chester R. Davis, 75, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bryan Lipscomb and Brother Marvin Best officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, November 30, 2011 at the funeral home.

Mr. Davis was born January 19, 1936 in Martinsville, Texas to the late Minnie Aline (King) and John Ervin Davis, and died Monday, November 28, 2011 at his residence.

A former resident of Center, Mr. Davis had resided in Lufkin since 1973. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1954-1960 and retired from Texas Foundries following 23 years of employment. Mr. Davis loved working with wood, fishing, and working in his yard. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ethelda “Scooter” Davis of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Jay “Randy” and Alicia Davis of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Randy Baggett of Mansfield, Arkansas and Jo and Dale Manthey of Kevin, Montana; adopted son and wife, Ronald and Glenda Ulrich of Pollok; five grandsons; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Alene Lewis; brothers, Earl Davis and Harvey Davis; and sister-in-law, Betty Davis.

Pallbearers will be Chad Stewart, Charles Warrick, Ron Ulrich, Earl Randolph, Danny Cook and Allen Lear.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mr. Davis’ Sunday School class at Providence Baptist Church.

Danny Faulk, age 68 of Hot Springs Valley, Arkansas, and a previous resident of Rockwall, Texas, for 19 years, passed away on November 22, 2011. He was born August 9, 1943 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Aubrey Daniel & Louise (Holmes) Faulk. Danny worked as an electrical engineer for Oncor. He was a member of Balboa Baptist Church in Hot Springs Village and a former member of First Baptist Church of Rockwall.

Danny is survived by his wife; Candi Faulk of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; daughters: Alesha Seroczynski and husband Tom of Granger, Indiana, and Danise Faulk of Dallas, Texas; son: Damon Faulk and wife Kelly of Wylie, Texas; mother: Louise Worsham and husband Levis of Joaquin, Texas; brother: Terry Faulk and wife Myriam of Spring, Texas; and grandchildren: Tate, Timothy, Tyler, Andrea and Stephen. He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, November 28, 2011 at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Chapel. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Andy Miller, 50, of Garrison, Texas passed away November 27, 2011 in Houston, Texas. He was born August 27, 1961 in Orange, Texas to Billy L. Miller and Donna Baker Miller. He was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church in Garrison. He worked for Krogers in maintenance.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 5:30 - 7:30pm at Garrison Funeral Home in Garrison. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 10am at Holly Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Homer Murray and Dr. Gerald Edwards officiating. Mrs. Johnnie Mae Hilton Whitescarver, 86, of San Augustine, passed from this life on Thursday, November 24, 2011, in San Augustine.

Johnnie was born to Verd Mae (Snellings) Hilton and John Robert Hilton on March 10, 1925, in San Augustine County, Texas. She was employed as a Bank Teller in the Banking Industry for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of San Augustine.

Memorial Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011, in the Liberty Hill Memorial Gardens in San Augustine County with Bro. Chet Hensley officiating. Cremation was chosen by the family.

Those who are left to survive her include: Sisters: Geraldine Van Shoubroek of Beaumont; and Mary Williams of Bossier City, Louisiana and numerous nieces and nephews.

William Hal Wyatt Sr., 70, of Center, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2011 in Nacogdoches. He was born December 26, 1940 in Center to William Robert Wyatt and Blanche Cooper Wyatt. Mr. Wyatt was retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety where he served as a trooper. He was a member of DPSOA and a member of the Center Camp of Gideons International. Mr. Wyatt achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was a recipient of the God and Country Award. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Center and a member of the Joe Ellis Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Center with Rev. Michael Hale and Rev. Charles Williams officiating. Betty Pauline (Weatherford) Baldwin, age 75, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011.

Mrs. Baldwin was born Nov. 17, 1936, in San Augustine County, Texas, as a daughter of the late Enoch Weatherford Sr. and Ollie Mae (Williams) Weatherford. She attended Massey Business School in Nacogdoches and had a long distinguished career working in the office administration for Nibco in Nacogdoches. She was a member of Greater Faith Tabernacle Church.

Survivors include a son, Charles Baldwin and wife Linda of Henderson, Texas; daughter, Linda Netherland and husband Gary of Madison, Mississippi; brothers, Bobby Weatherford and wife Betty of Broaddus, Texas, and Barney Weatherford and wife Janie of Broaddus, Texas; six grandchildren, Charles Lyn Baldwin, Dana Sharp, Cara Luman, Garren Netherland, Gretchen Daniels, and Marla Oliver; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Baldwin; daughter, Elizabeth Oliver; grandchildren, Jeffery Oliver and Crystal Oliver; a sister, Doris Warren; and brothers, Billy Ray Weatherford and Enoch Weatherford Jr.

Funeral services are set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas, with Rev. Gary Netherland officiating. Interment will follow at Hebron Cemetery, located on County Road 4600 near Broaddus, Texas.

Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel and continue until service time.

Wilma “Bill” Persis Rushing McFarland of Lufkin, Texas, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011. She was born on August 1, 1919, in Jasper, Texas.

She was a cheerleader at Center High School and sold popcorn during World War II at the local theater in Timpson, Texas. Bill attended the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, where she was named a Bluebonnet Belle. She was active in the First Methodist Church in Center, Texas, and at the First Methodist Church in Nacogdoches, Texas. She worked at Farmer’s State Bank in Center, Texas, and at Stone Fort National Bank in Nacogdoches for 27 years as an officer. Upon retirement she enjoyed bridge and playing golf. A resident of Nacogdoches for 50 years, she moved to Lufkin, Texas, in 2001 and lived at Pinecrest Retirement Center since that time.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Rushing McFarland, and her husband, Kenneth Malcolm McFarland, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Deanne Goldsberry of Dallas, Texas; and her sister, Jean Milligan of Kerrville, Texas. Other survivors include grandchildren, Connie Goldsberry Griffin, Frank Hood Goldsberry III, Penny Jean Goldsberry, Michael Rushing McFarland, Jr., and Michael Jameson. The great-grandchildren are Drew Griffin, Alexandra Griffin, Morgan Goldsberry, Michael McFarland III, Fisher McFarland, and Ruby McFarland; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2011, at PineCrest Chapel, 1302 Tom Temple Drive in Lufkin, with Minister Deanne Goldsberry officiating.

Barbara Sue Bivins, age 67, of San Augustine, passed from this life on Friday, November 18, 2011, in San Augustine, after a brave illness.

Ms. Bivins was born on August 3, 1944, to Katherine (Harris) Bivins and Leacle F. Bivins in Rusk, Texas. She was a Caregiver, and a Pedicurist. She was a member of the Church of Christ in San Augustine.

Funeral Services will be held on at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011, in the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, with Stephen Wiggins officiating. Interment will be in the Old Palestine Cemetery in Alto, Texas. Jerald Wayne Eddins,63, passed away November 16, 2011, surrounded by his family, at his home in Roman Forest, Texas, after a year long battle with cancer. He was born February 10, 1948 to James C. and Ruby Eddins in Beaumont, Texas.

Jerald is survived by Andra Eddins, his wife of 43 years, his four sons, Bryan Eddins and Wife Mandie, Garon Eddins, Shelby Eddins, and Stason Eddins and wife, Christie. Jerald had 7 grandchildren, Sydney, Morgan, Haiden, Carson, Blake, Parker, and Cooper. Jerald is also survived by his Mother, Ruby Eddins and Step-father Johnnie, and his sister, Jean Parham, Mother-in-Law Beverly Blumerick, Brother-in-Law Larry Blumerick and wife, Becky, Sister-in-Laws, Melinda Burk and husband Richard, and Melony Bean and husband, Jeff, and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. 

Jerald was preceded in death by his father, James C. Eddins and his father-in-Law, Bill Blumerick.

Jerald retired from Mobile after 18 years of service and was self employed at the time of his death. Jerald was a beloved husband, father, brother, and son.

Services were conducted at Rosewood Funeral Home in Porter Texas on November 19, 2011 with graveside services at Mt. Herman Cemetery in Center, Texas following.


Dr. Conway Hunter Mallory, Jr. age 82 of Center, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 at Pine Grove Nursing Center.

Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joel McMahon officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00pm until 8:-00pm at Mangum Funeral Home.

Dr. Mallory was born December 22, 1928 in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee to Parents, Conway Hunter,Sr. and Virginia Lee (Cooper) Mallory. He received his degree in Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee. He then went and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned to University of Tennessee where he graduated from Medical School. He did his residency in Memphis and then he moved to Center where he completed his residency and took over Dr. Spencer Warren’s medical practice in 1960.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Center for many years.  He was the Co-Founder of Memorial Hospital in Center which is now Shelby Regional Medical Center where he practiced until his retirement in 1995. He loved his patients and his family. Dr. Mallory was also interested in the economic growth of Shelby County and was instrumental in bringing the first shopping center of Dues Minimax and Howards Discount store to Center, Texas. Dr. Mallory also served on the Board at Holiday Nursing Center and he was the Medical Director at Pine Grove Nursing Center.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Conway Hunter Mallory, Sr. & Virginia Lee (Cooper) Mallory, Daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Mallory Wright, Wife, JoAnn Mallory and his Brother, Jim Mallory.

Born September 01, 1940, in Timpson, TX, Donnie Maye Stone was the daughter of the late Wesley Wayne and Donnie Dealie (Broseh) Kellum. She was a graduate of Timpson High School and attended business college. Donnie Maye Stone was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Timpson.

James Earl Ponder, 84 of San Augustine, Texas passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 in Lufkin, Texas. He was born March 25, 1927 in San Augustine, Texas to Curtis Earl Ponder and Mattie Lou Bland Ponder. He was disabled and a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Audrey Adams Dailey, 92, of Center, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Holiday Nursing Center. She was born in Runge, Texas on October 12, 1919 to Rufus Dalton Archer and Viola M. Hattenbach Archer. Mrs. Dailey was retired from Hallmark and was also employed at Hawkeye Hunting Club for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Center for over fifty years.

Dr. Joe E. Ericson, 85, retired professor of Stephen F. Austin State University, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at Rock Haven Nursing Home, Nacogdoches.

Dr. Ericson was born Sept. 6, 1925, in Throckmorton County, Texas, and had lived in East Texas area since 1957.

After a number of years of faithful service, Dr. Ericson retired from Stephen F. Austin State University as a professor and chairman of the political science department. He was an author and had written numerous books. He was a co-author of a political science textbook, Practicing Texas Politics. He enjoyed gardening and was active with many groups and organizations, including Sons of the Republic of Texas, having served as a past President General; Jamestowne Society; Magna Charta Barons; American Political Science Association; Southwestern Political Science Association; Alpha Chi; a Knight of San Jacinto, past Knight Commander; and the Order of Descendants of Ancient Planters, having served as state president.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Reeves Ericson; a daughter, Linda Diane Devereaux of Virginia; sons, Joseph Reeves Ericson and wife Deborah Ericson of Nacogdoches and John Ellis Ericson and wife Bonnie Marlin Ericson of Nacogdoches; sister-in-law, Bonnie C. Ericson of Seminole, Texas; grandchildren, John Devereaux, Angela Rene Ericson, and William Reeves Ericson; a great-granddaughter, Lexington Leigh; and step-grandchildren, Victoria Shull, William Shull, and Elizabeth Russell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lester Lane Ericson.

Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church, located at 201 E. Hospital St. in Nacogdoches, with Dr. Bill Gandin officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, located off Hwy. 21 East, Nacogdoches.

James T. Green, 90, of Shelbyville, passed away on Wednesday, November 09, 2011 at Shelby Regional Medical Center. He taught at Shelbyville Elementary School for thirty-one years and was principal for the last twenty-four years. Harvey Bryan, 92, of Center, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 in Bossier City, Louisiana. He was born in Shelby County on August 29, 1919 to Benjamin F. Bryan and Linnie E. Cobb. Mr. Bryan served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a deacon at Center Missionary Baptist Church in Center. Mr. Bryan worked as a mechanic for S.L. Yearly and Toledo Machine Shop and also owned and operated a lawnmower repair shop for many years.

Jessie Bernice Anderson, our precious loving mother, at age 94, of Houston, passed away Monday, November 7, 2011 at Vosswood Nursing Center in Houston, Texas.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Fodge officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Cemetery in Joaquin. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

She was born March 6, 1917 to Jesse and Dolly (Crawford) Hooper in Paxton, Texas. In 1961 she moved to Houston and taught fourth grade at Francis Elementary School in the Aldine School District for many years. She enjoyed traveling and hearing of trips taken by those around her. For many years she made annual visits to see the foliage in Virginia and Port Aransas for the beach. She enjoyed being with family, nature walks and tending her flowers. She was a resident of the Vosswood Nursing Center in Houston and was dearly loved and cared for by the staff. She was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church, Spring, Texas and she enjoyed Clift Notes Bible study class at Second Baptist Church, Houston, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her Husband, Lofton Anderson of the Fellowship Community; her Sister Nannie Hill Oates and her brother, Sam P. Hooper both from the Paxton Community.

A native of Red River County, Texas, she was born to Julian Walter Cook Francis and James Madisen Francis on June 25, 1909. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in San Augustine.

Dorothy Ellen Dykes Wilson, 58, of South Houston, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011 in Joaquin.  She was born in Porterville, California on September 21, 1953 to Neil Dykes and Maxine McCutcheon Dykes. Dorothy was her happiest when she was in the wind on her motorcycle.  She leaves behind many brothers and sisters in the biker world that she loved dearly. Her family and friends meant the world to her. She was a very unique person and a friend to many. Dorothy was one of the original ten members of the Annual USMC Toys for Tots Toy Run held in Pasadena. This year will be the eighteenth anniversary of this event.

Martha Nail held many titles. She was lovingly called MaMa, Nannie, Nannie Martha, Grandmaw, and Ryan called her Granny. She had a passion for her Lord, her family and for music. She was known far and wide for her “cornbread dressing” and homemade rolls. Our holidays will never be the same without them!

Giving her up wasn’t easy, but watching her suffer was worse. She was very tired and ready to be with the Lord and PaPa Joe. We can proudly say, we are the family of Martha Nail, our sweet Nannie, mother, and best friend.

Mrs. Jean Ross Mills, 81, of Center, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Oaklawn Memorial Park with Bro. Don Noble officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

She was born December 14, 1929 in Shelby County to parents, Carroll Ross and Ruth (Whittlesey) Ross. She owned and operated Dairy Cream in Shelbyville for many years and she also worked at Wal-Mart. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Memorial service for Paul Harris, 63, of Timpson, TX, will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, Timpson, with Dr. Josh Walters officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday and continue until service time at 1:00 PM. Mr. Harris passed away November 2, 2011, in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Born May 23, 1948, in Nacogdoches, TX, Paul Harris was the son of the late L. C. and Marion (Tyson) Harris. He was a graduate of Palestine High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. Paul and Melinda Schwab were married May 30, 1975, in Dallas, Texas. He was a master plumber/business owner and member of First Baptist Church, Timpson.

Survivors include his wife Melinda Harris of Timpson; sons, Keith Harris and wife Angie of Houston and Grant Harris and wife Kati of Nacogdoches; grandchildren Hollie and Collin Hale; mother-in-law Nadine Schwab of Dallas; aunt, Bertie Mae Britton of Timpson; cousins: Ronnie Britton and wife Debbie of Timpson, Cynthia Hutchins and husband Robert of Center, John Tyson and wife Barbarta of Rowe, NM, and Barbara Tyson Bigby and husband Dave of Santa Fe, NM.

Paul was a loving husband and father. Grant and Kati’s children, Hollie and Collin, brought him much joy. He desired very much to be a grandfather in February to Keith and Angie’s son. He will be missed more than words can express by Melinda and the entire family.

Mr. Snider retired from Pilgrim’s Pride after twenty-five years of service. He was a recipient of many awards.
