Sandra Kay Ileks left this world for the next at the age of 56 on February 11, 2012, far too soon for those who loved her dearly and those who will not have the pleasure of knowing her, but long enough to enrich our lives with a legacy of deeply shared love for her family and friends, of compassionate and diligent service in her job and volunteer work, and of steadfast faith and courage that was in her always but perhaps never more evident than in her brave battle with illness in her latter years.

Coming into this world on March 16, 1955, her birth was a great joy to her parents, Herbert Lee and Alice Joy Langford, both of whom precede her in passing. Her decision as a young woman to seek her Licensed Vocational Nursing Certificate struggles. Through the years her passion for her career gave great comfort and aid to those she served and worked alongside in Houston, Pasadena, and finally, in the Texas Hill Country, where she moved with her beloved husband of 21 years, Ingvars Ileks, and made it their happy home for the rest of her days.

Dedicated as she was to her career, she gave even greater love and enthusiasm to her role as wife to the gentleman she met at the wedding of her best friend in January 1990 and married in October of that same year. She was also blessed to be the mother of Sabrina Williams, her cherished daughter who would bring even more love into the family with the birth of Sandra’s granddaughter, Allyse Puckett, in March 2002.

Sandra Kay Ileks is survived by many that she cared dearly for: Ingvars, Sabrina, and Allyse, as well as her son-in-law Charlie Santo, her sister Brenda Waller and her husband Thomas, her brother Shannon Langford and his wife Cindy, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws. Her contributions in more recent years included service to youth events hosted by the First Baptist church of San Marcos and her employer, Lone Star Lions Eye Bank, giving aid and fellowship to the community and, literally, helping the blind gain sight. One of the lovelier sights in the Hill Country was Sandra’s magnificent gardens, with her “Grandma Barlow’s Roses” becoming almost a local celebrity themselves.

Departed too soon, Sandra’s legacy of love, faith, courage, and care will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and the things she brought to all of those fortunate enough to share her life. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate in her memory seek out the Lung Cancer Research Foundation, reachable via donations@lungfund.org or 646-290-5154 and/or Hope Hospice New Braunfels.
